Holidays to Lake Buena Vista aren’t complete without a fairytale trip to Disney’s Magic Kingdom®. Six enchanting lands await, featuring the likes of Cinderella’s Castle and Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. You could easily spend your entire holiday having a blast in the parks and shopping in Disney Springs®. But you won’t want to miss the other joys of Central Florida, and a chance to see the ‘real’ USA beyond the theme park gates. Head to the beautiful Everglades national park to enjoy gorgeous scenery and perhaps a thrilling airboat ride, relax on the beaches of the Space Coast, or tee off at a premier golf course.
From kid-friendly rides to white-knuckle rollercoasters, it’s all on your doorstep at Walt Disney World Resort. As well as famous amusements like Space Mountain and Splash Mountain, you can see exotic African wildlife on safari at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park®. And don’t miss the crazy watercoaster at Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park; this place is also home to a splash park for smaller children. For one of the most exhilarating activities of all, jump aboard a NASCAR race car at Walt Disney World Speedway.
Set on the shores of Lake Buena Vista Lagoon, Disney Springs® is split into three zones. You can enjoy spectacular evening shows over on the West Side (including Cirque du Soleil), top restaurants at Pleasure Island (it’s a great place for grown-ups), and an array of souvenirs at the Marketplace. Shops like Lego Imagination Center and World of Disney are open until late.
Thousands of people choose Lake Buena Vista holidays for the greens. This is a golfer’s paradise, with dozens of courses to choose from, so if you’ve packed your nine-iron, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Disney’s Lake Buena Vista golf course (which has hosted the PGA tour) is a firm favourite, taking you from near the Saratoga Springs Resort, Disney Springs, and the Old Key West Resort. You’ll love the country club vibe here. See if you can avoid the tricky Mickey Mouse bunker at Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course, or play a laid-back round amid the scenic woodlands and pretty lakes of Disney’s Palm Golf Course. A popular family-friendly option is Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, which doubles as a wildlife sanctuary.

This resort lies at the heart of the Sunshine State, and the weather is glorious (if a little humid during the high summer months). If you’re travelling in the summer, slap on the sun cream and don’t forget your hat as the Florida sun is very strong. Try to take a break during the middle of the day when the sun is at its hottest. It’s worth remembering that hurricane season is from June to November, but full-blown storms aren’t so common.
Weather in Lake Buena Vista
By shuttle bus: If you’re staying at Walt Disney World Resort, make the most of the free shuttle buses to the parks. Lots of other hotels do the same, so check before you book if don’t want to drive.
By i-Ride Trolley: Home to Universal Orlando®, i-Drive is one of Orlando’s main centres outside Lake Buena Vista. The I-Ride Trolley takes you between all its parks, restaurants, and shops, so it’s super simple to explore.
By car: Florida’s roads are easy to navigate, whether you want to get to the theme parks or further afield; but it’s worth remembering that it has more toll roads than any other state, so make sure you have a ‘roll of quarters’ for the toll gates. Within half an hour’s drive, you’ll find the east coast beaches, Kennedy Space Center and so much more.
Toast marshmallows: Head to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground for the nightly Chip ‘N Dale’s Campfire Sing-A-Long, plus gooey smores and a Disney film under the stars.
Dance the night away: Love hip-hop and R&B? Hit the dancefloor at BET Soundstage Club in Pleasure Island to see top live acts. You could even end up on TV, and BET’s own cable channel broadcasts live from here a few nights a week.
Disney festivals: Magic-filled events take place all year round at Walt Disney World Resort, including enchanting Christmas celebrations. Even grown-ups will love Epcot International Flower & Garden festival (March to May) and Epcot International Food & Wine Festival (September).
