Not a bad hotel, improvements could easily be made
Overall this is not a bad hotel with some great points but some significant room for improvement. First off the good points : Cocktails, wines and beer are all delicious, drinks are amazing and included (upgrade to premium cocktails not needed) Nicely decorated rooms and overall style / design of the hotel areas throughout - great kid pull out beds, inter connecting rooms and other features to make it work for the whole family Upgraded a la carte restaurants (included for 3 nights) were all nice meals and a good vibe Breakfast selection - they have everything Snacks during the day - these are amazing so you can grab salad, baguettes, ice creams, mini samosas, coffees, waters, cakes at any time during the day to suit you and your family, as well as hot dog and burger snack bar - so helpful with kids Flexible approach to ‘adult pool’ kids were welcome if they didn’t bring rings and lilos which was so appreciated as honestly this pool is the only relaxing spot in the whole hotel, appreciate may not be great for those actually seeking adult pool (but tbh this is not a couples hotel at all and should look elsewhere ) Bar staff work so, so hard - they’re just amazing and get through constant flow of people all day long, huge credit to them Alvor town, it’s just beautiful and SO many great restaurants and pleasant to wander around Alvor beach - stunning - take the lovely board walk down, beautiful walk, turn left and you will find unforgettable coves and caves and a lovely beach area with or without beds / sunbeds/ bars as you prefer as it’s very long (just remember it’s the Atlantic so be prepared for the chill if you want a sea swim, beautifully clean here though) The areas for improvement; Overall pools and layout feels a bit like the lido, they’ve stuck 3 pools together which doesn’t really work where the rest of the resort is quite spacious further up, and the animation team are pumping music there from one crap speaker 24/7 - it’s not the relaxing holiday vibe you want and feels chaotic Animation team in general - ridiculous - no one wants them singing along to sexy sexy culo at breakfast time lovely young people not their fault but management need to rethink the brief here Pools are really very cold! With the Algarve breeze this makes it a bit difficult for little ones to swim for much time which is a shame. Not enough storage in the rooms and nowhere to hang wet stuff General Service was polite but so so slow and vague, asking 3/4 times for things, reception phone rarely answered, you don’t really know what’s going on in this hotel and it’s all quite random because they are clearly very understaffed. They need more people to support such a busy August season, the hotel was very very full As others have said slight shortage of sun beds but we did manage ok in the end
Beautiful
We traveled as a couple ,early 50's, some may say middle aged. This resort is beautiful. It is cleaned constantly ,the staff can not do enough for you . The room was modern, clean , plenty of room for us two, it had a sofa and a kettle which is a bonus. It is a family resort and we have only ever been to adult only but we had a late deal bargain. There are 4 pools and an indoor pool. The adult pool hmm, not really an adult pool ,quieter yes but still parents with kids throwing balls ,splashing . Small kids and babies I can understand . Witnessed a few older couples trying to have a quiet swim and they weren't able to . Really did need someone to monitor who used it. Food was plentiful, cooking right until closing, something for everyone. Snack bar all day , ice cream, tip tops ,bottled water tea coffee soft drinks always stocked up and available. We stayed in villa 1 which is right by reception and entertainment , didn't have any issues with noise. If you're tired you will sleep. We will definitely return , I honestly can't fault the place apart from the adult pool issue.
Good resort
Alvor is a great resort for families. It’s well structured, has several pools and direct access to the beach (about 1 km walking distance). Check in and check our experience has been great, we booked a family room which was quite spacious and well furnished. Hotel is new, and very clean. Personnel is really helpful, not all of them are qualified but plenty of good will to help. Few faults that can be easily improved: waste bins are not split for recycling. Given the huge amount of waste produced, it’s really a pity there is no recycling culture. Food waste: like every all inclusive hotel, I’m hoping food left is either distributed to employees or to specific centers. It will be really sad to see that food is wasted. They should offer more fruit and fresh juices during the day, especially for kids. Overall this has been a great experience and I would def recommend this hotel.
