By bus: Regular bus services run between Funchal and Caniço if you're travelling around the island or looking to visit for a day.
By rental car: One of the best ways to get around Caniço and see the surrounding areas at your own pace is by hiring a car for your trip. Although the roads can be narrow and windy, they are generally quiet, and the ocean views make it worthwhile.
By taxi: If you'd prefer not to drive during your trip, you can easily take taxis to and from Caniço.
Nossa Senhora do Monte Festival: This is one of Madeira's most significant religious and cultural festivals, dedicated to the island's patron saint. It takes place over two days in August, with celebrations happening in most towns and cities. Expect brightly coloured garlands adorning the streets, dancing, music, and food and drink vendors serving local delicacies like espetas (traditional beef skewers) and bolo do caco, a Madeiran flatbread made with sweet potato.
Caniço Gastronomic Festival: Caniço hosts a week-long food and drink festival every August, showcasing the region's flavours. The festival is hosted in partnership with local bars and restaurants so visitors can sample their cuisine and watch performances by local musicians.
