Palatial Tvrdalj

The city of Stari Grad was founded by the Ancient Greeks more than 2,500 years ago, and later claimed by the Ottoman Empire. It remains one of Europe's oldest towns. Petar Hektorovic, a poet from the 16th century, created a palatial summer retreat here, known as the Tvrdalj.

You can still stroll around his giant fishpond, enclosed by stone pillars, walled herb garden, and dovecote tower after they were repaired and rebuilt through the 1900s.
