Minthis Golf Club

Fancy a round or two? Pack your clubs, brush off your Pringle jumper and grab your gloves, it's time to put your golf skills to the test with a trip to the oldest course in Cyprus. Minthis Hills sits in the grounds of a medieval monastery, giving this championship course a unique feel and beautifully tranquil setting. Take in the mountain views as you play this challenging course at 550 metres above sea level.

The course

Designed by Donald Steel in 1994, the Minthis Hills golf course is a championship 18-hole course that has everything including a moat island green on the 13th, two lakes, and 35 bunkers. The course is 5,853m long, so it's a good walk, too.

Watch out for the water hazards, steep valleys, and the challenging uphill fairways at the 14th and 17th holes. It's ideal for all level of abilities, from novices to professional. If you want to work on your handicap in truly stunning surroundings, and with exceptional golfing facilities on tap, this is the place to go.

If you want to get in a little driving practice, there's a 16-bay driving range, with two practice putting greens, and a 326m chipping/pitching green surrounded by three practice bunkers. So you can really hone your skills before hitting the fairway.

Minthis Hills Academy

The game of golf is incredibly complex, and takes a lifetime of practice. However, a little bit of help from the professionals can take your game up to the next level. The Minthis Hill academy helps golfers of all ages and abilities to improve their game. From Junior classes, one-to-one tuition, groups or couples, the academy's highly trained and talented experts will have you driving, chipping, and putting in no time, ironing out that slice and teaching you how to curve a putt with the pros!

Stunning surroundings

As you play each hole through the ancient gardens and the perfectly manicured greens, it's impossible not to stop occasionally and appreciate the sheer beauty of the location. You're surrounded by slopes of grapevines, almond trees, and olive groves. In the distance the mountains provide a dramatic backdrop, and there's very little chance that your round will be interrupted by rain, as those dazzlingly blue skies are usually cloudless.

If you're playing the full course then expect to push through your 10,000 steps-a-day pedometer target, as the course is quite a long one, with some challenging hills. If you want to save your energy for the important business of putting, there are buggies and electric trolleys for hire.

Amenities

After your round of nine or 18 holes, it's time to head to the 19th hole and the elegant clubhouse for a refreshing drink and a bite to eat. For a more formal meal you can eat at the club's restaurant, or have a casual snack at the café bar.

Tying the knot at Minthis Hills

If you're planning to get married in Cyprus, then Minthis Hills gives you a fantastic location for that special day, with facilities for the reception as well as some beautiful spots for your photoshoot. If you don't play golf, there are also nature trails and cycle routes taking you through the dramatic landscape. Look out for waterfalls, caves, and native birds on the way. And for that perfect end to a perfect day, drop into the Minthis Hills Winery and pick up a couple of bottles of vintage wine.
