Benalmadena Nightlife: Bars & Clubs
When it comes to parties, clubs and bars, the Costa del Sol enjoys a reputation as being a centre for pleasure-seeking. A large portion of that is down to the fantastic nightlife in Benalmadena. Located to the west of Torremolinos and Malaga, Benalmadena is a busy and bubbling resort, attracting thousands of revellers each year. Just two hours’ flight from the UK and with Malaga airport just 12km away, it’s the perfect party destination for a long weekend or a full-on week. If you’ve never been before and don’t know where to start, read our guide to Benalmadena nightlife.
24 hour party people
Whether you’re a complete newbie or a seasoned clubber, the only place to kick off your tour of Benalmadena nightlife is Plaza Solymar, also known as ’24 Hour Square’. As its nickname suggests, the square is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year for you to go and grab a drink. In addition to a wide range of neon-lit bars, it’s also home to the hottest clubs, such as Molly Malones and the infamous Jesters. Take part in something of a nightlife tradition and make your way to Lineker’s Bar and do the ‘Feed the Pigeons’ dance.
Live it up with the locals
If you want a taste of the more upmarket nightlife, the marina is the best place to go. This is where the locals go to kick their heels up to Latin tunes and Salsa music. Don’t expect too many tourists here and be prepared to dress up for the night. The clubs here tend to attract those who want to be seen on the scene, and often have a dress policy on the door. Drink prices tend to be a little more expensive in the marina clubs and bars, but you’re rewarded with sophisticated surroundings and a good atmosphere. Kaleido and Maracas are two of the best clubs in this part of town.
Also known as ‘Bonanza Square’, the Plaza de Nueva Bonanza is another hub for nightlife in Benalmadena. With pubs, clubs and bars standing shoulder-to-shoulder, you won’t be short of places to live it up. Venues in this palm-tree-lined square tend to attract the holiday crowd and it’s possibly the best place to go for cheap drinks, two-for-one offers and regular happy hours. While most of the bars open in the afternoon, the clubs don’t really start pulling in people until early evening, remaining open until the early hours of the morning.
The biggest nightclub in Benalmadena
In the downtown area’s 24 Hour Square, you’ll find the biggest nightclub in Benalmadena. A permanent fixture on the Benalmadena nightlife scene, Kiu Nightclub boasts 10 bars and three dancefloors. Clubbers go here for the eclectic music, which includes dance anthems, current pop tunes, and Latin-inspired Salsa. An enormous nightclub, it also owns the Atlantis Room, which has another dancefloor, glitzy and glamorous décor and its own balcony. If you’re going to Benalmadena as part of a hen party, Kiu runs a fantastic Ladies Night every Thursday. The club throws its doors open at around 11pm and keeps going until the sun rises.
Would you like ice with that?
For one of the most unusual nightlife experiences in Benalmedena, head to the Ice Bar, located close to the marina. It’s exactly what its name suggests; a bar in which everything is made of ice. You’ll be provided with warm clothing before you enter and then you can enjoy sitting in ice chairs, leaning against ice walls, ordering from ice bars and drinking from ice glasses. The perfect place to cool down on a hot night.
