Holidays in Playa del Inglés

Big and buzzing Playa del Inglés in Gran Canaria is one of the island's oldest party resorts, pulling in visitors since the 1960s to make the most of its gorgeous beaches and nightlife. There’s plenty of room for everyone, with 3km of golden sand backing into a colourful waterfront with top bars, pubs and shops, and the resort’s best hotels close by.

It  has the ideal holiday location on Gran Canaria’s south coast, situated close to nearby water parks and sport centres. Known in English as 'Englishman's Beach', it's very popular with English-speaking tourists, and offers some of the most cosmopolitan nightlife in the Canary Islands.

21 – 28 °C °C

For the hottest sunshine, July and August is the best time, although you can expect decent beach weather from around May until at least October. Playa del Inglés enjoys some of the highest winter temperatures in the Canary Islands, thanks to its sheltered location.

Go on an unforgettable scuba diving adventure and see the stunning marine life of the Canaries during your Playa del Inglés holidays, or explore the busy market of Puerto de Mogán, Gran Canaria's very own 'little Venice'. If you love a bit of shopping, don't forget to visit the Yumbo Centrum in Maspalomas, where you'll find over 200 shops, restaurants and bars.

Head further afield to the striking volcanic rock known as Roque Nublo, which dates back over four million years and was an ancient place of worship. Or go on a day excursion to Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria, and see its enchanting cathedral and museums where you can learn all about the history of the island and the discovery of the New World.

Relax on the golden sands of Gran Canaria’s Playa del Inglés, which is one of the most famous beaches in all of Europe. With such a great reputation, it can get rather busy in the peak season, but there’s usually enough room for everyone. You can also head to the bigger beaches of Maspalomas if you'd like a bit more space and quiet. If you don't mind waking up early one morning, walk along the long promenade to see the beautiful sunrise, or head to Meloneras in the evening to watch the sunset.

One place you'll have to put on your holiday itinerary is the Dunes of Maspalomas, an incredible sand dune system that looks like a miniature version of the Sahara Desert. If you're feeling a little adventurous, hire a camel, or head here in the evening to see one of the best sunsets in the Canary Islands. This desert landscape is also overlooked by the impressive Maspalomas Lighthouse, which dates back to the 1890s.

You'll find something for every taste during your Playa del Inglés holidays, from delicious seafood dishes like calamari fried squid, to pizza, tapas, hamburgers, fine-dining and more. Gran Canaria is also famous for its rum and cocktails, which can be made with locally grown tropical fruits and herbs.
