  • Getting around

By taxi: Stick to the official taxis with the red licence plates. While they do have meters, it’s a good idea to agree the price with the driver before you set off. Make sure you confirm whether the price is quoted in Jamaican or US dollars.

By bus: Free bus services to points of interest and tourist spots are often put on by hotels.  This is a great way to see the most impressive sights.

By tour van: Picking you up from your hotel, a van tour is an easy way to get a real view of Jamaica during your Montego Bay holiday.

    Events

Reggae party: Visit the Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest, Jamaica’s biggest reggae music festival. With over 50 world-class acts and musicians, the party starts on Walter Fletcher Beach but continues for a week of non-stop partying. If you’re about in July, this is a must-see.

Jamaica’s favourite son: The Bob Marley Experience is a tour which departs from the resort and journeys to Bob Marley’s home at Nine Mile. This eye-opening tour teaches you about the Rastafarian religion, and takes you to Mount Zion Rock, where Marley enjoyed meditation. This tour is unforgettable for the Marley fan and gives a real glimpse into Jamaican culture, too.
