Camden Market

Make your way to London’s most famous alternative shopping district and spend a few hours browsing the stalls at Camden Market. With more than 200 vendors, there’s plenty on offer from jewellery to vintage clothing, shoes and bags, so take your time as you buy gifts and souvenirs at this historic market.

To reach the market, take the underground to Camden Town or Chalk Farm. Separated into four different markets, Buck Street Market, Stables Market, Canal Market and Lock Market, it’s worth setting aside a whole morning or afternoon to explore properly as you sift through crafts, antiques and second hand books.

For a quieter experience, visit the market during the week in the late afternoon. Whenever you go, make sure go and see Camden’s most iconic stalls, whether you’re rummaging through rockabilly clothes at the Black Rose or finding retro menswear at A Dandy in Aspic.

When you get hungry, you’ll be spoiled for choice at Camden Market. From Caribbean jerk chicken to Argentinian steak and Mexican tacos, there’s food from every corner of the globe, so place your order and tuck in at the huge communal tables.

For a quiet cup of artisan tea and a slice of homemade cake, try Yumchaa at Camden Lock Place. On a warm day, go to Marine Ices near Chalk Farm station where you’ll find some of the capital’s best Italian gelato.

After wandering through the market, sip a cool beer at the Hawley Arms, watch a gig at the Roundhouse or simply enjoy a spot of people watching on Primrose Hill.
