Monte Rei Golf & Country Club
This golf club has won the award for being the best in Portugal for four years running, most recently in 2017. However, you should budget to part with at least €190 if you want to play. Although it’s isn’t cheap, it’s certainly worth the luxury experience. The service is second to none, and the course is immaculate, with plenty of challenges for more advanced players, and practice putting greens for novices. To the north of the course you can see the peaks of the Serra do Caldeirão, and the south overlooks the Atlantic Ocean. So, the quality of the views certainly matches the outstanding playing conditions. Finally, the food served in the clubhouse is divine. Golf in the Algarve is always a treat, but even more so when you come to this club.
Victoria Clube de Golfe
This beautiful golf club boasts 90 hectares of greens. It’s renown for showcasing the work of the one and only Arnold Palmer. If you’re looking for a course offering five to six tees per hole, rolling fairways, stunning water hazards and some devilishly difficult bunkers then this is the place to be. Located in Vilamoura, it’s worth paying a visit to take in a quick round.
The Old Course Clube de Golfe
Settled in the heart of Vilamoura, this golf course is a work of art. Designed by the talented Frank Pennink, it’s ideal if you prefer a parkland-style course, filled with pine trees and gently undulating terrain. As the name suggests, this club’s one of the oldest the Algarve has to offer, which only adds to its charm and prestige.
Laranjal Golf Course
Having opened its doors in 2009, this golf course is relatively new. However, it’s certainly made a name for itself. In 2011, it won ‘best golf club’ in the Portuguese Travel Awards. The fairways are breath-taking, and the greens are immaculate. Complete with five glistening lakes and surrounded by pine and orange trees, this club is the place to be if you you’re looking for a picturesque 18-hole course.
Pine Cliffs Golf Course
If you prefer a shorter round, this nine-hole course is fabulous. This club is renowned for their welcoming environment. Anyone can enjoy their course, from novices to professionals. Not only does this course offer challenging holes and great greens, but the sea views are amazing, too. This coupled with its top-quality restaurants and bars make it the perfect place to spend a chilled afternoon.

If you want something a little more exclusive, San Lorenzo is the perfect fit. You’re required to be either a private member or a guest at either the Dona Filipa Hotel or the Amarante Formosa Park Hotel. This 18-hole course boasts a stunning backdrop of luscious green grounds against the striking Atlantic Ocean; could you think of anything better? Plus, when you’re finished with your round, you can enjoy a beautiful meal in the restaurant or a refreshing drink at the bar. It’s widely regarded as one the best clubs in southern Portugal, and when you check it out, you’ll understand why.
Vale do Lobo
This golf club is still as popular today as it was 50 years ago when it first opened. Located in the gorgeous resort of Vale do Lobo, this course is one of the largest and most extravagant this resort has to offer. You have two stunning courses to pick from; the Ocean and the Royal. These are sure to provide you with hours of pleasure.
