Would you believe it’s been 25 years since Disney’s most-beloved characters came to life for the first time in Europe!? For their big anniversary, Disneyland Paris has gone all out, and whether you’ve been before or this is your first time, it’ll definitely exceed your expectations.
In April, I spent a wonderful two days at Disneyland Paris and every moment of it was filled with laughter. My trip began aboard the super convenient Eurostar train from St Pancras International, and the whole journey, from boarding to arriving into the station right in front of the Disney Parks, was an incredibly smooth process.
I stayed in the recently refurbished Disney’s Newport Bay Club; set in grand 1920s New England, overlooking Lake Disney and only a ten minute walk to both Disney Parks. This hotel has 1093 rooms, indoor and outdoor pools and I truly enjoyed the breakfast buffet, in particular the continental choice.
I loved every moment of my time at Disneyland Paris, but here are four highlights I wanted to share with you.
1) Disney Illuminations
Launched five years ago, the night-time show, Disney Dreams has been transformed into the spectacular Disney Illuminations, which sees images projected onto Sleeping Beauty’s Castle, turning it into an amazing big screen.
The whole show is a breathtaking symphony of light, colour and sound. Disney Illuminations includes stories like Star Wars, Frozen, Pirates of the Caribbean and many more, all presented by Mickey Mouse himself. The show opens and closes with a song sung by Cinderella, giving you a full sensory experience. You can actually feel the warmth coming from the spectacular fireworks display.
2) Disney Stars on Parade
This parade features new floats, thrilling music and incredible costumes. During the parade, the characters engage with the audience, bringing people of all ages together. The sound system was amazing too, and the whole experience made me feel like a child again!
3) Star Tours – The Adventures Continue
This is a fantastic, motion-simulated 3D attraction. The design of the waiting line and the craft cabin makes you feel like you’re actually going on a star tour. For that moment, I could’ve been Princess Leia! This attraction has been enhanced so that now there are over 70 different mission combinations. It’s perfect for someone like me who thinks that the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is a little bit too much of a big thrill (but I can’t really say much more as I had my eyes closed until the ride ended!).
4) Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show…with Mickey and Friends
This is an action-packed live Wild West show with horses, buffalo, cowboys and indians. It was great fun to wear a checked shirt and denim and to really get involved. We received a cowboy hat on arrival and performers interact with the audience throughout, including lots of ‘Yeehaw!’ shouting. A delicious barbecue meal served in western dinner wear was included in the ticket price, which gives you even more value for your money. It’s definitely worth adding this show on to your Disneyland Paris holiday extras.
I’ve only described my top four here, but there’s so much more to experience when you join Disneyland Paris in celebrating their 25th anniversary. In the morning, you can enjoy Mickey presents “Happy Anniversary Disneyland Paris” in front of the Sleeping Beauty Castle, where you’ll have the chance to see some of the Disney Classic Characters together, or The Starlit Princess Waltz, where you can see the dancing Disney Princesses. Both of which showcase some great acting and singing talents.
Throughout the Main Street, U.S.A., I found so many amazing boutiques where I could buy souvenirs, ranging from fridge magnets to Disney fashion. And of course, getting a pair of Minnie ears is a MUST! Mine stayed on my head throughout the whole stay.
I don’t think there’s a better place to take a short break; I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Maybe you’ll discover you’re just a big kid at heart too?
