Just the other week, TripAdvisor hit the headlines for announcing their ‘Top 25 Beaches in the World’. Now, I’m sure I’m not alone when I say a beautiful beach is an absolute must for a holiday abroad, especially at this time of year when the British weather’s so chilly. Luckily there’s a place where the sun always seems to be shining; the Caribbean. Caribbean beaches dominated five of the top ten spots, and it’s not hard to see why, with their dazzling blue seas and powdery white sands. Let’s take a closer look at the amazing beaches you could be unwinding on if you chose to fly somewhere faraway with us.
#3/ Varadero Beach, Cuba
Our first beach is the highest Caribbean beach in the list; Varadero Beach in Cuba. It’s a postcard-perfect setting for any holiday and stretching more than 20km, you’ll never have to fight for a space to lay down your beach towel. It’s a great pick for families with younger kids, thanks to its shallow shores, and another bonus of this Cuban hotspot is that it comes without the typical Caribbean price tag. Cuba’s also full of cultural history; so spend an afternoon paddling in the sea before wandering into Varadero for a taste of the traditional.
#7/ Clearwater Beach, Florida
Holding the Guinness World Record for the most consecutive days of sunshine (768!), it’s no surprise that both locals and visitors love to be down on the sands of Clearwater Beach. Clearwater by name, clear water by nature; the turquoise waves are the perfect place to cool off in the Florida heat. Relaxing on a sun lounger is the thing to do by day, but by dusk, make sure you head to Pier 60 and experience one of the best sunset spots along the coast. Feeling adventurous? Enjoy the scenic Pinellas trail by bike for a chilled out afternoon.
#8/ Seven Mile Beach, Jamaica
Lined with coconut trees and lush, green scenery, Negril’s Seven Mile Beach is a tropical paradise that’s full of fun. There are activities going on here throughout the day, from water sports to zip lining. One thing that really sets this beach apart is its fantastic choice of places to eat and drink. Try some traditional Jamaican cuisine like spicy pulled pork and chargrilled lobster, or sip on a rum cocktail, looking out across the sea. By night, you’ll be able to relax to reggae beats and dance at one of the lively bars.
#9/ Bavaro Beach, Dominican Republic
Known for its clean beaches and endlessly-stretching shores, Bavaro Beach in the Dominican Republic is lined with palm trees and full of Caribbean charm. If you’re happiest by the beach, you’re in luck, as many hotels in this area can be found right on the beach, often with their own private section. There’s always a gentle breeze blowing across the bay too, which means it’s the perfect place to catch some waves if you’re into water sports. Why not get even closer to the wildlife on an organised snorkelling expedition?
#10/ Playa Norte, Mexico
Coming in at a respectable number ten out of the ‘Top 25 Beaches in the World’, Playa Norte is so much more than just a beach. This beautiful spot is found just off the coast of Cancun, on the five-mile-long Isla Mujeres, which only adds to the peaceful, bohemian vibe. Locals get around on bikes and everyone on the island gathers for the spectacular sunset. This is also the perfect time to go for a dip, as the water’s clean, safe and only chest deep, even good distance from the shore.
