Still looking for inspiration for that all-important summer holiday? Whether it’s a family holiday or a romantic getaway with your other half, there’s no doubt you’ll be wanting a gorgeous beach to kick-back and soak up the sun on. Well let me give you a hand deciding. Below, I’ve picked out six of the best beaches in Europe, all of which feature on TripAdvisor’s ‘Travellers’ Choice Top 25 Beaches – Europe’ for 2016. So I’ve done the first part for you; now, I don’t envy you trying to narrow it down to just one!
1) Playa de Ses Illetes, Formentera – Spain
Just a short boat ride from Ibiza, Playa de Ses Illetes is perhaps the biggest draw to the small island of Formentera. Offering a taste of the Caribbean, this beach’s natural landscape with its pure white sands and azure waters is an unforgettable experience for all who visit.
2) Elafonissi Beach, Crete – Greece
Located on a protected nature reserve just off the island of Crete, Elafonissi Beach boasts soft, pinky-white sands and crystal clear waters. This pristine islet can be reached by foot from Crete when the tide is low enough and it’s easy to see why it’s regularly named as one of the best beaches in Europe.
3) Iztuzu Beach, Dalyan – Turkey
More commonly known as Turtle Beach, Iztuzu Beach’s soft sands are a nesting site for loggerhead turtles, meaning there are strict rules in place to protect them. It’s a great beach for swimming and sunbathing and can be reached by road or by boat along the picturesque Dalyan River.
4) Praia da Marinha, Carvoeiro – Portugal
Praia da Marinha epitomises everything that the Algarve stands for. Think glistening, golden sands, electric blue waters and dramatic rock formations and that pretty much sums up this popular spot just outside Carvoeiro. Despite its fame, it’s relatively crowd free and certainly worth a visit.
5) Playa de Muro Beach, Majorca – Spain
Alcudia’s quieter and calmer neighbour, Playa de Muro is home to six kilometres of exceptional Blue Flag beach. The inviting white sand and shallow waters make for a perfect day for the whole family to enjoy. There are plenty of facilities nearby, but also quieter sections for you to enjoy the peace.
6) Fig Tree Bay, Protaras – Cyprus
Another stunning Blue Flag beach, Fig Tree Bay is undoubtedly the most popular spot in Protaras and regularly gets ranked amongst the top beaches in Europe. Whether you want to relax and soak up the warm Cypriot sun or try your hand at diving and other water sports, this is the place for you.
