Why choose Silversea Cruises?

Offering the last word in luxury, Silversea cruises set the standard to which all other ships aspire. There is simply no finer choice of cruise line favoured by those who want the very best in a cruise holiday. The fleet of seven ships are small in size and big on quality - six of them being suites-only accommodation. Silversea enjoys a reputation for excellent service, the best cuisine and superb décor.

Destinations and Itineraries

The destinations perfectly match the ships with destinations including Monte Carlo and the Caribbean. Silversea offer African cruises, Alaskan cruises, Atlantic Cruises and Black Sea Cruises, plus cruises along the east coast of American, the Indian Ocean, the Far East, South America and the Panama Canal.

The Silver Explorer lives up to its name, with its ice-hardened hull put to use on voyages around northern Europe, the Arctic, and the Antarctic. The line even offers a 115-day worldwide cruise from Los Angeles to Barcelona!

Ships and Facilities

The two smallest ships in the fleet are the Silver Explorerand the Silver Galapagos. Although these are the oldest ships in the fleet, both have had recent refits. The Galapagos has 50 ocean view cabins, most having balconies. All cabins have hand crafted Italian furniture and queen size beds. More usual offerings include a minibar and TV and the small bathrooms have teak wood floors. The Silver Explorer had its refit more recently and each of its 66 cabins have flat screen TVs with interactive TV and video. The passenger to crew ratio is also low. On the Galapagos, a capacity 111 passengers and 70 crew makes a ratio of one crew member for 1.6 passengers. The larger Silver Explorer has a ratio based on 158 passengers to 111 crew, which makes for an even lower ratio of 1:1.4.

The Silver Wind and the Silver Cloud were the next additions to the fleet - both at 168,000 tonnes and 148 and 150 cabins respectively. All cabins are suites are fitted with walk-in closets and bathrooms with bathtubs and marble floors.

The next two largest ships, the Silver Whisper and the Silver Shadow are both 28,258 tonnes. They entered into service in 2000 and 2001, and hold a maximum of 486 and 423 passengers respectively. Again, each cabin is a suite of the same high standards.

The most recent addition to the fleet is the 36,000 tonnesSilver Spirit, launched in 2009. Carrying a maximum of 594 passengers the ship has 370 cabins - 258 of which have a balcony.

Activities and Entertainment

The smallest ship the Silver Galapagos is the only vessel with a limited amount of open space for sunbathing - although there is a wooden promenade deck. Distractions on board include a variety of watersports, including zodiacs and snorkelling.

On the Silver Explorer there are two jacuzzi pools, a beauty salon, a fitness centre and a spa, plus the watersports offering is complemented by a glass bottomed boat.

The Silver Wind, Silver Cloud, Silver Whisper and Silver Shadow have plenty of outdoor space with a wraparound promenade deck. They also feature a fitness centre, health spa and swimming pool deck. The largest and latest addition to the fleet the Silver Spirit offers the same as well as a resort-style swimming pool.

The Silver Wind and Silver Cloud are the only ships in the fleet to have a cinema, show lounge, library and casino. The Silver Galapagos has a casino, a piano bar and a lounge and library, although there is no formal entertainment programme. On board the Silver Explorer, there is a cinema and a library but no show lounge. Several lounges are dedicated to drinks, music and entertainment and there is also a cigar lounge for smokers. The lecture theatre features talks from guests about the destination of that particular cruise. The Silver Whisper, Silver Cloud and Silver Spirit have several lounges throughout the ship offering sophisticated entertainment.

Dining

Excellent food and service is offered on board all Silversea ships and despite their modest size, alternative dining options are available in all ships apart from the Silver Explorer and the Silver Galapagos. The three largest ships have more than one alternative dining option.

The dress code is casual and comfortable during day time and evenings range from smart casual to informal. Formal evenings require a dinner suit for women and a cocktail dress for women.

Several of these ships have the same names as models of Rolls Royce cars. It's a hidden clue hinting at the quality of cruise holiday offered by Silversea and the benchmark the brand has set and maintained - one that no other cruise line can match.
