By taxi: You can’t miss Tenerife’s white taxis, which are all metered. If you’re planning to go exploring then talk to your taxi driver and set a fixed price before you set off.
By car hire: Pick up a hire car and go on your own adventure. It’s a good tip to hire a 4x4 as some of the smaller roads inland can be a bit ‘rural’!
By bus: Hop on one of the bright green buses nicknamed “guaguas” that zoom around Tenerife. They’re a cheap and cheerful alternative to taxis.
By tram: Travel in style on board one of the sleek, modern trams that ferry tourists between Santa Cruz in the south and La Laguna in the north.
Dazzling costumes: Leave the clouds and the drizzle behind and join the fiesta in February and March when it’s carnival time. Get your dancing shoes on and party all night, when the island comes alive with dazzling costumes and joyful music that you won’t be able to resist! It’s time to take to the streets and party hard with the locals.
Colourful parades: Just a few weeks later, it’s time for the big Easter celebrations, with more processions and colourful parades as everyone gets into the festive spirit.
Dance party: The Arona Summer Festival raises the temperature even higher in August when international live acts and DJs turn the Olympic Stadium into one huge dance party.

Summers are hot and dry, with the thermometer hitting the low 30s almost every day. However, an onshore breeze takes the bite out of the heat, making it tolerable even on the hottest days. If you prefer things a little cooler then the best time to plan a Playa De Las Americas holiday is in the spring or autumn, when the mercury drops back down to a more temperate early to mid-20s (°C). Keep an eye on the forecast if you plan to come in November, as this is when you may catch the occasional (if very short-lived) downpour.
