Katelios
Escape the crowds with holidays to Katelios, a pretty Greek fishing village in southern Kefalonia. Set against a backdrop of unspoilt scenery, tucked away between pine-covered hills and a sun-soaked sandy coast, it’s the perfect spot for a peaceful island break. Katelios is brimming with traditional Greek charm, think quaint taverns and a bustling harbour, and its Mediterranean beaches are ideal for a spot of relaxation. When you’re ready to explore beyond the shoreline, you can head into the lush countryside and trek through the hills. It’s a great place to get away from it all.
Things to do
Tranquil beaches, crystal-clear waters and Mediterranean sunshine are all part of Katelios’ appeal. You can make the most of Kefalonia’s stunning natural landscape from here, by trekking through the eucalyptus and verdant pine trees. Keen hikers won’t be able to resist heading uphill to enjoy panoramic views across the coast.
If water sports are more your thing, it’s well worth taking a water taxi over to the lively village of Skala, where you can try everything from scuba diving to windsurfing. When the sun goes down, you’ll be more than ready for mouth-watering fresh seafood at a local taverna. Oh, and a glass of Robola wine, too.
Excellent beaches
There are several beaches near to Katelios. Its closest has crystal clear waters and is a mix of sand and shingle. If you want something a little sandier, then Mounda Beach is not far away and has a long stretch of soft white sand. Mounda Beach is also protected, as it’s a popular loggerhead turtle nesting area. If you’re lucky enough, you could witness the newborn turtles’ first steps and watch their natural instincts take over as they flee for the water.
History and culture
The charming resort was originally a busy fishing village and although a couple of boats still work from here today, the development of tourism in the area has seen the village grow in size. From the coast you can see the island of Zante, whilst views inland are nestled with thick, green agriculture. Katelios has a relaxed atmosphere, with great maritime traditions set into their way of life.
Food and drink
As well as its serene setting, Katelios is a place where fish are caught daily and the local cuisine is not only fresh, but also delicious. There are some amazing restaurants and bars in the area, all with a chilled, feel-good atmosphere. Dine at the contemporary Rosebud Bistro for fabulous food and spotless surroundings.
Nemesis is popular for its fruity cocktails, exceptionally friendly service and beautiful beachside location and it’s among the many bars that are open till late throughout high season.
The Cozy Bar & Restaurant is excellent value for both food and drink. Its unique décor and lively music adds to the welcoming smile you receive on entry by staff and leave with at the end of a well-cooked meal.

Kefalos
Kefalos is a beautiful, typical Greek town on the far south-western tip of Kos. Bathing in Mediterranean sunshine, this town is more relaxed than the party towns of Kardamena and Kos Town, but still has lots going on.
With a long, golden sandy beach, clear water and a superb coastline, families and couples on a romantic getaway can spend days enjoying the tranquility here, and try out new watersports for an adrenaline boost. Explore the streets of Kefalos with its whitewashed houses and blue doors, and find a street café to indulge in some delicious local foods. With a fun and laid-back nightlife, enjoy friendly bars, candlelit dinners, and cocktails on the beach.
Things to do
This Greek town sits on the southern peninsula of Kos with spectacular views and beautiful beaches. Although the warm sand is tempting every day, there are so many things to do in and around Kefalos that you’ll want to spend at least a little bit of time away from the beach. Wander the winding streets of the town itself where every house is whitewashed, and every door is a pure Mediterranean blue. There are several ancient ruins very close to Kefalos, and many more further along the island. With fantastic seafood, lots of watersports, heaps of history, and the golden beach, you and your family will never run out of things to do.
Fun at the beach
Kefalos is home to some of the most action packed beaches in all of Kos. Each beach caters for both sun worshippers and those looking to enjoy the water. If just lying back in the sun is your thing, you’ll find the golden beaches very welcoming. They’re a real treat for those who like to take it easy and for those who like a little bit more excitement with their beach days.
Mythical craters
For some sightseeing, you can take a trip to the volcanic island of Nisyros. Here you’ll find lots of great places to capture some interesting holiday snaps. According to Greek mythology, Nisyros was created by Poseidon after he threw a stone into the sea. As you arrive on the island, you’ll find the large crater from a 15th century volcanic eruption that happened on the island. Nisyros is full of great places to visit and beautiful countryside to explore. You’ll find some stunning buildings dotted around this island as you take in the sights whilst basking in the sun.
Waterpark fun
When you want to make a splash, Lidos Water Park is the place for you. Just a short drive from Kefalos, you’ll discover the action packed waterpark which is suitable for kids of all ages and has many activities for parents and children to do together.

Psalidi
Perfect for those who want all the party-centric possibilities offered by neighbouring Kos Town, holidays to Psalidi, Kos offer all that but with somewhere quiet to retire to at the end of the day. Compared to the rest of Kos, this lovely resort is a much more sedate resort, offering a sweeping sand and shingle beach that seems to melt into shallow waters. While it’s ideal for families with younger children, there’s plenty for those with teens to see and do, including an exciting array of watersports. By night, this resort maintains its laid-back ambience, replacing Kos’ lively bars and clubs with quiet restaurants and local tavernas. Popular with both couples and families, holidays to Psalidi, Kos island are a chance to soak up some sunshine, surrounded by peace and tranquillity.
Things to do
While Psalidi might have all the ingredients for a quiet beach-based holiday, there are plenty of things to see and do in the area. The capital, Kos Town, is just 10 minutes away, giving you access to superb shopping, vibrant nightlife, and ferries to other Dodecanese islands. However, if you’d rather enjoy quiet bars and relaxed restaurants by night and sun-splashed beaches by day, Psalidi is the place to be. Have a bash at some watersports or take the children along the coast to the Lido Water Park. Couples can take advantage of the island’s position in the Aegean and enjoy some of the best sunsets in the world.
