Fun, Friendly Family Hotel with bags of Potential.. but...there are a few things.
I like many others read the reviews before going and was a little concerned. Before going however, I armed myself with the knowledge that it was School holidays, All Inclusive and Post Pandemic. I'm not saying that even though I went prepared I didn't find faults but with expectations set, I was trying to give a fair review. Room: I travelled with my Wife and 2 boys (11 & 13) and on arrival found staff to be courteous and helpful, shown to our room (we opted for the "Suite") and although lower standard than I was expecting, it was adequate. I was only going to be spending limited time in the room anyway and so wasn't concerned. The boys had a room and we had a room with an adjoining shower room. Yes the room needed some TLC but again it was fine. Aircon was working fine and we had a great view of the Activity Pool. There were instances throughout the holiday where music was being played until 2am on a few occasions but I couldn't see where this was coming from. Very odd but it was reported to the reception anyway. Dining: This is All Inclusive and the food will be rotated through the couple of weeks you're there. I found the food good with plenty of choice. As others have said, the Chinese is the saving grace here and holding my hand up, had Chinese for 10 out of 14 nights.... Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner is what many All Inclusive Hotels have and although I can see how some people don't like this, We found it to be fine and giving our boys more than enough choice. My only complaints here is how busy it became on our second week. Although in our first week, we didn't really have an issue the second week became a nightmare for finding tables. We constantly found ourselves waiting and staring at other tables to see when they finished. It was a little uncomfortable but there was little option. As some others have suggested leaving later for Dinner at approx 8pm might be the better option. Pools: There are 3 Pools at Akti Beach: Adults, Activity and Main Pool. The Main Pool is where we spend most of our time but the Activity Pool is where most of the games are played and the Adults Pool is self explanatory. The surroundings where nice, it did get windy and there were smells of toilets/drains but nothing that isn't new to Greek Islands. My only concern with the Pools where the reservation of beds! As previously mentioned, there is signage for not reserving beds but we found that everyone did this. Our room backed onto the Activity Pool and while awake at 6am, I could see that the majority of beds had already gone and not a person was around. Maybe they were putting them out after the bar had closed the night before but to have most beds gone by 6am at a pool is a problem. The Main Pool was very similar in this respect and we found we had do be down at approx 7am to get a bed with shade. For me this is the biggest problem with the hotel. If you have a sign that says no reservation then management should be going down to remove any towels that don't have someone already with them. We found that some families laid towels between the Activity Pool and Main Pool so they could switch through the Day. The Beach beds were also very similar. If you want a beach bed, get down there VERY early. Activities: These are great for kids. If you’re around the Activity Pool, the Team keep Parents and Kids busy. There is a schedule of activities that changes every 2 weeks I believe so it’s worth keeping an eye on it. You don’t have to be around the Pool and can turn up at the Activities as you see fit. Activities are Ping Pong, Archery, Boules, Multiple Pool Games, Beach Volleyball etc. These are all free. Pedalows are free on the beach but all WaterSports cost (we thought they were quite expensive) The Activity Team also do the entertainment in the evening and although they can be a bit “samey” they are very fun and keep the kids entertained. There is also a Games room that contains Ping Pong (free), Table Football (1 Euro), Air Hockey (2 Euros), a Punch Bag and a Bike Game. These are all okay but there we found a terrible stench that seemed to live down there (more drains I think). You can also get free Tennis coaching via reception which I think is a great bonus. Bars: There are multiple bars around that keep you topped up with Local Drinks, Spirits and Cocktails out of a box. I didn’t see any major issues here but can understand why some, who like a drink, might think otherwise. Transport: There are free multiple buses into Kardeminia every day and a local but that goes to Kos Town for 3.50. The buses can get very busy but the driver will come back and pick up the rest if you’re going to Kardemenia. If you’re wanting to hire a car, my advice would be to use the local town rather than than the 2 people that work from the Hotel as they can be about 30% more expensive! Taxi’s are also available but can be few and far between. A final note would be the TV’s. I know most don’t go on holiday to watch TV but being a Football loving brit, I did want to watch the Euro’s Final to be told this wasn’t available and that we’d have to go into town. For a hotel that classes itself as 5 star, this should be corrected. There is plenty of room to be utilised and perhaps something that should be considered going forward. Sort out those few things, TV/Sport, Drainage (Smell) and Sunbeds and it would be great! Thanks for a great holiday and we’d recommend.
Brilliant hotel
I’m writing this review while I’m still in Kos as I have no faults with the hotel, food or staff. The hotel is a complex with lots of swim up pools and 2 main pools. I was blessed with staying near the adults only area which I must say was amazing especially when you work with children. The beach is close to the hotel but you need swim shoes as there are lots of stones, the sea does feel amazing when you go for a dip. The animation team are brilliant with the children and adults with lots of activities to take part in. The rooms are spacious and cleaned daily. The tv channels are poor for English speaking but your not there to watch tv or you should have stayed at home. The shower has a really good power to it. The bed was really comfortable and I had the most amazing sleep apart from feeling cold from the AC lol. The beach There is a wide selection of food on offer obviously the kids favourite nuggets, pizza and chips. Food Is cooked in front of you and I must put a special shout out to theChinese buffet . There is also a area for eating and drinking in the adults area as the main bar does get really busy. There is a free shuttle bus that takes you to the nearest town kardemena, the last drop off from town is 9.45. A taxi rank is near by and cost 10 euros the only problem there is you can wait a while for one to arrive but don’t worry you can enjoy a delicious Ice cream from specials. Lastly I would just like to say how friendly and welcoming the staff are.
Not 5 Star hotel
Arrived late at night ,all looked very nice at . Got to our room 103 , very basic , not what we were expecting at all and much smaller . Air con not working so complained to reception staff , this we t on for 4 of our 10 night stay . Kept sending up someone to fix it , but it was falling apart , parts missing . Reluctantly they moved us to another room ,121, . Air con worked a dream but the bathroom was a riot . Constant running toilet, discoloured , mould round the bath and shower screen and it stank!!! Shower head didn't fit into attachment properly , had to be squeezed into it . The restaurant was always very busy , queuing fir food and rude people just jumping in front of you pretending they don't know how it works . Seating very busy too. The bar is just as bad , never any seats not big enough for size of hotel . My kids (10 & 15) did not enjoy the entertainment, found it boring , games room is tiny . Not much for them to do . Sunbeds are a riot , could never get one as people where putting towels on them at god knows what time, even though there were signs not to do so ! Got the shuttle bus to Kardemena a couple times but be prepared for the queue jumpers there too . The surroundings are lovely and views are stunning but in my opinion this hotel is not 5 star as stated , more like a 3 at most !!! Disappointing as this was our first holiday away since covid !!
