Cavtat holidays are all about slowing down, with great food and wine, Renaissance art and culture, hidden rocky coves, and crystal clear waters - all surrounded by swathes of citrus groves and pine forests. This tiny terracotta-roofed harbour town sits on a narrow peninsula, at the southernmost tip of Croatia, just half an hour from Dubrovnik. So when you’re not winding down on this strip of coastal bliss, you can hop on a bus, ferry or taxi to explore the set of King’s Landing from Game of Thrones. We have so many beautiful holidays in Cavtat to make your trip one to remember.

Things to do

Between forests of fragrant cypress trees and secluded rocky coves, a palm-fringed promenade leads to the narrow streets of its Old Town. The allure of holidays to Cavtat is as much to do with its rich history and local culture, as its impressive soul-stirring scenery. Follow your taste buds around the fresh seafood restaurants, sip Plavac Mali (indigenous Dalmatian red) in quaint wine bars, and soak up the impressive Renaissance architecture. There are so many things to do here that make Cavtat one of Croatia’s true hidden gems.

Secluded coves

Without a doubt, it’s the tiny secluded coves that make holidays to Croatia so popular, and Cavtat breaks have some of the best. Top of the list is the tiny but gorgeous Beach Pasjaca. A raw beauty surrounded by steep cliffs, it can only be accessed by steps carved into the stone. For this reason, it’s rarely crowded, and a great spot for romantics. Sustjepan Beach is the best place for snorkelling and kayaking and offers a fantastic view of the port.

Art and culture

Cavtat is home to some fantastic cultural sites, like the house of Vlaho Bukovac – the birthplace of the world-renowned Croatian modern artist. Inside you can learn about his life and see 30 of his paintings. You should also poke your nose around the impressive 15th-century church, St Nicholas', the Račić Family Mausoleum, Our-Lady-of-the-Snow Monastery, and the Baltazar Bogišić Collection.

Fresh seafood

A holiday to Cavtat is perfect for those who want to try classic Croatian delicacies. For fresh, mouthwatering seafood, stroll to Ključice beach, home to the Rokotin restaurant. Here you can enjoy spectacular views, and traditional Dalmatian dishes, from grilled meat and fish to the best octopus salad you’ll ever taste. Then wash it all down with a local Konavle red wine. Cavtat also serves up an impressive selection of vegan, gluten-free, and lacto-free options.
