Beach lovers: Croatia is blessed with crystal-clear waters and honey-coloured coves, but it’s Cavtat that takes the game to another level. Its pebble beaches sit along the waterfront promenade, making them easy to get to on foot. Žal and Rat are the most popular among visitors, with pine tree crescents surrounding their shores. If you prefer a more secluded getaway, venture south towards Pasjača and Obod.

Water sports enthusiasts: Whether you’re a water sports enthusiast or want to try something new while on holiday, Cavtat has it all. Scuba diving, kayaking, water skiing, wakeboarding – you name it. If you want to spend a day out on the water but would prefer a less adrenaline-filled activity, you can rent a boat or a jet ski for breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea.

Art connoisseurs: Cavtat is the birthplace of Croatian painter Vlaho Bukovac, famous for his painting ‘A Flower’. Bukovac studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and returned to Zagreb in the late 1800s. Today, the house where he was born is now a museum dedicated to his work, with beautiful frescoes on the walls.

On foot: The best way to explore Cavtat is on foot. You can walk around the Old Town along the waterfront promenade, lined with palm trees and restaurants. 

By bicycle: If you want to rest your feet after a day of sightseeing, you can rent a bike to explore Cavtat. There are plenty of cycle routes in and around the Old Town and coastline.

By car: Getting around Cavtat by car is possible, although be prepared to navigate its narrow streets. If you want to visit nearby Dubrovnik, 30 minutes away, there are plenty of car hires to choose from.

Epidaurus Festival: Established in 2007 by Croatian pianist Ivana Marija Vidovic, Epidaurus Festival takes place in September every year. It’s a celebration of art in all its forms, from drama and literature to music and folklore, offering a platform for internationally acclaimed artists to showcase their talents.

Cavtat Summer: Held every year between late June and early September, Cavtat Summer brings the village to life with fantastic music and dance performances. Jazz, classical, Dalmatian and folk groups take the stage during this fun-filled event, which peaks in the first week of July with the Summer Carnival.
