What a fantastic family holiday!
Five of us ranging in age from 10 to 71 all thoroughly enjoyed our holiday, which was booked through Tui. We stayed in two adjoining rooms with partial sea views. Although small, the rooms were very clean and the maid service was brilliant (very efficient but unobtrusive) and any maintenance issues were dealt with promptly. The only reason not to rate it 5 stars was that the carpets were somewhat tired and stained. Reception staff were friendly and efficient as were the staff in the restaurant and bars. There was also plenty to choose from at both breakfast and dinner. We never actually had lunch in the restaurant (apart from the day we arrived whilst waiting for our rooms to be ready) as something from the snack bar late afternoon was usually all we needed. Two good pools, plus another for the toddlers and very energetic entertainment staff. What really made the holiday was the hotel’s location in the Plava Laguna resort which is so picturesque. Unless you want to go further afield, there is no need to hire a car. Porec is within easy reach by either land train, ferry or shanks pony (the walk takes about an hour). There are various sporting activities in the bay, some at least of which are free during your stay when booked through the hotel. We all tried table tennis, mini golf, pedaloes, kayaking and paddle boarding - not bad for a couple of septuagenarians! Our granddaughter and daughter-in-law also experienced the floating obstacle course and our son and daughter-in-law enjoyed several early morning runs. In addition we enjoyed the open air cinema and rock concert on the beach. We’ll really struggle to better this holiday and would love to return.
Lovely hotel but read reviews before booking, not everyone's cup of tea
Location: this hotel is located in Plava Laguna near Porec , next to and in walking distance from Zelena laguna. The airport drop off taken about an hour from Pula considering it was dropping off for other hotels as well. Porec is accessible with either a 30 minute boat ride (return ticket cost about 60 kuna or 7.96 euros) or about an hour walk. Lots of bars and restaurants at the beach if you fancy a night away from the hotel, not sure about night clubs or party places I haven't seen any advertised. The restaurants are normally reasonably priced and offer fresh and lovely food plenty of seafood options. Hotel rooms: The hotel room we stayed in was comfortable and contemporary and had a large bathroom and balcony and even with large living and sleeping areas. Our room was facing towards the front gardens not sea view but very quiet all the way through. If you get the sea view you will hear the night time entertainment as it is overlooking the pool and bar area. Hotel amenities: This hotel has two smaller pools and a kids pool. The size of these pools and the number of sunbeds aren't compatible with the size of the hotel itself in my opinion. Lots of people and not enough sunbeds. It is not a beach side hotel but the closest beach is about a 5 minute walk away. If you have any disabilities this might be tricky as the hotel is on a slight hill and the beach I think only has one ramp. The hotel DOES NOT HAVE sunbeds of their own on the beach so if you want one you will need to pay for one. (Daily prices for sunbeds are 50 kunas also if you use the parasol that is an extra 50 kunas as well) The hotel offers water activity equipment and sport equipment for free (see the pictures attached) including paddle boats, bicycles, electric scooters ect. There are a few tennis pitches near the hotel that you can book with the hotel 2hpp per week included. Also when you book these gratis sport activities it's not on the leaflet that you have to book them in in advence. When I booked our paddle boats Damin at the desk was very friendly and helpful. There are several lifts around the hotel so older people or people with mobility issues can move around well as well. Lots of oportunities for sports like walking, fishing, paddle boarding/Sup, paddle boating, squash, tennis, rentable cars/minibus, rentable bicycles, rentable mopeds, kids activities at the pool. Some places at the beach offer excursions like boat trips to see the sunset at sea, watch wild dolphins, parasailing, fishing trips ect. Food: The hotel has one main restaurant and one snack bar. The main restaurant is spacious and the food is fresh and plenty of options for everyone. The only thing I noticed is the serving area could be a bit bigger considering the size of the hotels capacity at times we had to queue for food. Alcohol is self serving in the main restaurant they have beer and both vines on tap and for others there are several soft drinks available sparkling and still form. The only thing we thought it could improve on is you have to ask for the sauces like Ketchup at breakfast and for British visiters I have not yet seen tomato beans, cooked tomatoes or hash browns at breakfast. People: The locals here are very friendly and helpful most of them speak multiple languages. Some young staff looked a bit tired but we come in mid September/end of season so no surprise. From the visitors/tourists side there are a lot of Germans, Croatioans from the mainland, Slovenians, Austrians mostly Europeans. (This is purely as a factual list and not mentioned for discriminatory purposes). For sociable British people we only seen a few British people and maybe one American family.
All inclusive hotel that offers everything
We had a wonderful holiday at the Hotel Albatros. Comfortable room with beautiful views, kept clean to the highest standard. Food was plentiful, with a good choice and dishes very tasty. Evening entertainment was good, as was the aerobics in the pool. Plenty to do - pedaloes, kayaks, tennis, bikes etc. Cannot praise the staff enough for their hard work and pleasant service. Staff at reception were very helpful too and sorted car hire and offered advice when needed. A sincere thank you to the whole team at the Hotel Albatros for making sure we had an amazing stay. Highly recommended and we will return.
