Lindos
Ancient and exquisite, it's no wonder Lindos is one of Greece's most photographed towns. Filled with Byzantine architecture, churches and whitewashed buildings speckling the hillside, the town spreads down to twin bays with dazzling blue waters. The jewel in its crown is the acropolis, more than 100 metres above the rest of Lindos, overlooking its historic sites, lively tavernas and beaches.
Things to do
There’s plenty of thing to keep you busy on a Lindos holiday, whether you want to soak up the sunshine or explore historic landmarks. Beyond the stunning beaches, you’ll discover a bustling atmosphere as you stroll through Lindos’ narrow alleys and cobbled streets, lined with beautiful Byzantine architecture and charming Greek tavernas.
It’s well worth trekking up the hill to see the 4th century acropolis (one of the most famous sights on the island), and when you get there you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views over the bay. After a day’s exploring, you’ll be ready for a bite to eat; there’s a lovely atmosphere in the old town, which is brimming with tavernas and outdoor terraces.
Authentic surroundings
The village centre is a car-free zone, so the only way to get around is by walking or taking a so-called Lindos taxi – a donkey. This is a great place for exploring, so wander down the winding streets, visiting unique gifts shops where you’ll find authentic souvenirs like beautiful embroidered linen and leather, as well as handmade silver jewellery. You’re bound to find traditional, one-of-a-kind gems here that you won’t get anywhere else.
The town has a social buzz to it and you’ll get a real feel for what Greek life is all about as you mix in amongst the locals, whether you’re just strolling around or having dinner in a traditional taverna.
Historical discoveries
You’ll be surrounded by history everywhere you walk in Lindos, so much so you’ll feel as if you’ve gone back in time. Explore the narrow streets, discovering the ancient architecture and beautiful churches as you go, mixed amongst the cosy restaurants and cafés. Navigate your way through the maze of cobbled streets to discover the famous Acropolis. Admire the ancient ruins and enjoy the breathtaking sight of the village below; the best spot in Lindos for panoramic views.
Why Lindos?
The friendly locals, historic surroundings and the beautiful scenery are just some of the reasons why people want to come back to Lindos year after year. There’re also the lovely beaches, crystal-clear seas and gorgeous sunshine that help make this a relaxing and idyllic destination for your holiday.
Where is Lindos?
Lindos is a picture-perfect village on the east cost of Rhodes, the biggest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands (and the most popular one, too). This former fishing village has become one of the most photographed places in the country, thanks to its fascinating Byzantine architecture, ancient churches, and whitewashed buildings speckling the hillside. And of course, the towering acropolis that dominates the town is a spectacular attraction!
As it’s located on the coast, you won’t be surprised that Lindons is also home to some fabulous beaches. You’ll find two beautiful spots to soak up the sun at the bottom of the hill. There’s one in the heart of the village, and another just a short stroll away, and you can take a dip in the sparkling waters at both of them. And when you’re ready for a bite to eat, you’ll find all kinds of welcoming tavernas to satisfy your hunger. If you’re looking for a real taste of authentic Greece, Lindos is an excellent choice.
Look on a Lindos map and you’ll see that this idyllic coastal resort is only 50km or so from the island capital, Rhodes Town. If you want to explore this historic settlement, it’s easy to plan a daytrip to see its UNESCO-protected Old Town. You can either take the bus, which is a great way to meet the locals, or hire a car.

Holidays to Parga are ideal for families and couples looking to enjoy a quiet slice of Greek hospitality. Surrounded by stunning scenery, this is perfect for those who want to soak up the local sights, such as Ali Pasha Castle and the Vlachena Monastery.
However, for dedicated sun-worshippers, Parga is blessed with some Greece’s most beautiful beaches, complete with powder-soft sands and clean, clear, aquamarine waters. While Parga holidays offer a laid-back and tranquil atmosphere, the restaurants and bars along the seafront add a little sparkle as the sun goes down. With plenty to see and do, you can make your holiday to Parga as upbeat or as low-tempo as you want it to be!
Things to do
Start your holiday in Parga with a walk to Ali Pasha castle. This hilltop, Venetian castle is well worth the climb, just for the stunning views across the town. Explorers will also enjoy wandering the cobbled streets of the Old Town, where you can find a variety of shops, bars and tavernas.
If you’re visiting during the summer, you’ll find plenty of beaches on which to get some serious bronzing under your belt. Lychnos Beach offers white sand and clear, turquoise waters, while Valtos Beach is the place to go, if you’re a fan of watersports.
Inviting beaches
With a peaceful atmosphere and slow pace of life, it all starts at the beach in Parga. Wander down to the sandy stretch close to the centre, or head to the longer Valtos Beach and look for a secluded patch for a restful day. Enjoy some warm Mediterranean sunshine and go for a dip in the sparkling sea as you make the most of Parga’s pleasant charms.
Great attractions
When it’s time to explore, there are some great things to keep you occupied away from the beach. Don’t forget to take your camera when you hike to Ali Pasha Castle, which has breathtaking views back down across the region from its hilltop. Discover the area’s ancient mythology, or go on a boat trip to visit other Ionian islands and sail gently alongside leaping dolphins.
Local nightlife
Despite being a peaceful spot, there’s still plenty of life to Parga when it comes to enjoying an
evening out. There’s an array of bars with lovely views out across the town’s bay, while there are places open until the early hours if you want to stay out late. Don’t miss the fresh seafood at a traditional taverna in the harbour, or local specialities like grilled kebabs with tzatziki and sweet
baklava for dessert.
