Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb

From one simple but original idea, a global industry has sprung up. When film producer Olinka Vistica and sculptor Drazen Grubisic ended their love affair, they realised they had any number of random objects they had given to each other during their time together.

After recovering from the initial shock of splitting up, they discussed the idea of preserving the artefacts somewhere. Then they asked their friends if they had similar keepsakes, letters, photographs, furry toys, whose value was imbued with the personal connections they represented. Could they throw them out? No. Could they put them on the mantelpiece to show visitors? Also no.

First displaying them at a successful exhibition at the city’s Glyptotheque, then at international galleries around the world, Olinka and Drazen decided to open a place dedicated to this unusual but universal form of collecting: the Museum of Broken Relationships.
