The official currency in Cape Verde is the Cape Verdean escudo (CVE).

We suggest ordering your travel money before you jet off so you’re fully prepared for your trip.

If you don't want to pay in the local currency, most places will accept euros. Plus, the euro is tied to the Cape Verdean escudo with a fixed rate, which means you don't need to worry about fluctuating exchange rates.

If you prefer to use your debit or credit card for transactions abroad, this won’t be a problem either. Most shops, restaurants and hotels will accept card payments, but you may come across a few places that only take cash. It's always a good idea to carry some coins with you, particularly when purchasing small items. If you're considering using your card for most of your trip, we always advise contacting your bank beforehand so you won’t be hit with any unwanted charges.
