Getting around Los Angeles

By Metro Rail: You’ll find rapid transit metro services running in LA, but it’s worth remembering that there tends to be a 10-minute or so wait between trains.

By hire car: This place famously has a car-centric culture, and if you want to see places in parts of the city the metro can’t reach, hiring a car will give you the freedom you need. Make sure to check parking before you go anywhere, and avoid the freeways at rush hour, as LA’s traffic jams are legendary!

By bike: You might not think of LA as a bike-friendly city, but there are some fantastic cycle tours on offer to take you around the main sights, and along the beach fronts.

Events in Los Angeles

The Oscars: Los Angeles is the home of the Academy Awards (AKA the Oscars), and every spring this world-famous event comes to town. Most events and parties are closed to the general public, but there’s a real party atmosphere around the city. And with a bit of luck, you might spot a celebrity or two checking into a glamorous hotel.

Music festivals: Love music? Take your pick from the ultra-cool Coachella music and arts festival in April, to the Playboy Jazz Festival in June, and the rock-centred Sunset Strip Music Festival in early August.

Halloween: It’s widely celebrated in the US, and this Californian city is no exception. The Halloween fun starts in early October with pumpkin carving events, and ramps up to a spectacular carnival on October 31st. As you might expect from such a vibrant city, locals and visitors love to go all out and (fancy) dress up for the occasion.
