Benidorm
Holidays to Benidorm are a real crowd-pleaser. Renowned for its beaches, it has become a popular holiday hotspot for good reason. This buzzing resort in sunny Costa Blanca is one of the original Spanish getaways. The balmy weather rarely dips below 12°C, even in January. With golden sands, lively nightlife and beachfront hotels just a stone's throw from vibrant bars and family-friendly restaurants, it's little wonder Benidorm holidays are such a popular choice for all ages.
For decades, the resort has been a favourite holiday destination for British families and couples. So there's no shortage of British-themed bars, and you're likely to spot a Union Jack or two as you explore the fish and chip shops, pubs and restaurants serving traditional Sunday roasts. Splash about at Aqualandia waterpark, laze on the golden sandy beaches or party until dawn in Benidorm's bars and clubs. This destination has something for everyone.
Things to do
A holiday to Benidorm would be incomplete without a day in Playa de Levante. This city beach is the place to be for water sports, lounging on a sunbed or wandering along the bustling promenade to find somewhere for lunch or drinks. Benidorm has superb attractions within easy reach, including its own waterpark, theme parks and interesting markets where you can indulge in some retail therapy. If you want to pick up some great bargains in Old Town, we recommend ordering your travel money before you go. Just make sure you save some energy because the nights out in Benidorm are legendary. If you’re away with kids, take them to an exciting dinner show or disco, and if you’re here for the clubbing, hit the Square for the best choice of cocktail spots and music-pumping venues.
Thrills and spills
Benidorm holidays are ideal for families. There’s so much to do, even for the little ones. Whether you’re a bunch of thrill-seekers or just looking for hours of family fun, Benidorm’s theme and waterparks have something to suit everyone. Enjoy slides, splash parks and fun in the sun at Aqua Natura. There’s a fantastic range of attractions on offer for the little ones and the bigger ones too! If you’d prefer to stay dry, head for Terra Mitica for your thrills, although there’s no guarantee of that if you go on the log flume! There are plenty of rides to get your adrenaline pumping here, and the kids have their own child-friendly replica rides.
Fun with nature
Benidorm has a lot of opportunities for you to get close up to nature and wildlife. If you want to explore Benidorm’s natural beauty and wildlife at your own pace, take a trip over to Benidorm Island. This nature reserve has a large peacock population and many colourful flower displays for you to admire.

Lloret de Mar
Lloret de Mar has the golden good looks of a classic Spanish beach destination, with the personality to back it up! Fun, friendly and with something new to offer every day, you could chill out on the quietest part of the beach or head into the thick of the action and try some water sports. The nightlife here is thriving, too, with enough venues and clubs to go to a different one every night during your Lloret de Mar holiday.
Things to do
Take the family to Water World Parc where adults and children can zoom down the slides and ride the waves in the wave pool. The attraction also has a children's lagoon and plenty of restaurants and snack bars where you can quickly recharge your batteries. Or head to the Museu del Mar to learn about the Costa Brava's maritime heritage, then explore the scenic Italian Renaissance themed Santa Clotilde Gardens on a cliff above the resort.
Go to Barcelona, just over an hour away by car, and see its distinctive Gaudi architecture such as the Casa Milà arts venue and the Sagrada Familia church. Wander through the city’s lively tree-lined promenade of La Rambla, where you'll find many of the city's best boutiques, visit the huge indoor market of La Boqueria, and spend some time at the enchanting Gothic Quarter with its quaint narrow streets and vibrant nightlife venues. The Catalonian capital is the perfect daytrip for your Lloret de Mar holidays.
Attractions
Once you step away from the hotels, the bars and the beaches, there’s plenty of interesting attractions to discover. Lloret de Mar has a history stretching back to the Romans, and if you take a wander around the town you’ll find 11th century castles built to defend the locals from pirate attacks, gardens designed in the Italian Renaissance style, and the stunning bronze sculpture, Monument to the Fisherman’s Wife; one of the town’s most iconic attractions.
One of the real gems is the biotope. This artificial reef is an absolute wonder for snorkellers and divers, while still preserving and protecting the fragile ecosystem that lies just under the water, from Cala Canyelles all the way to the centre of Lloret de Mar.
Entertainment
Lloret de Mar holidays primarily focus on the beach during the day, and the town’s thriving nightclubs, bars and restaurants during the evenings. As many hotels are located close to both the beach and the main entertainment centre, you shouldn’t have too far to walk, so a taxi probably won’t be necessary.
Clubs have a relaxed dress policy in general, although beachwear is perhaps a little too relaxed for the more popular clubs and bars, so bring some glad-rags for the evening. You’ll find a lot of bars run by ex-pats, so expect theme nights, big-screen TVs (football is a passion in this part of the country so expect all the bars to be packed when Barcelona are playing), and a friendly welcome wherever you go.
Towns and cities
Lloret de Mar is surprisingly big, and there’s plenty to see and do. However, if you fancy a healthy dose of Spanish high culture then the historic city of Barcelona is only 48 miles down the coast. With fabulous art galleries, museums, parks and top-class shopping on offer, it’s the perfect day trip and should only take you around an hour and a half to reach.
For a slightly longer journey, head north to Perpignan, around 80 miles away and packed with 13th and 14th-century buildings, elegant parks, and the beautiful 14th century Cathedral of St Jean Baptiste.

Roquetas de Mar
If you’re looking for a quiet slice of Spanish paradise where the beach is the star of the show, then book your holidays to Roquetas de Mar. Popular with families and couples who want some laid-back leisure time together, this resort is the place to go if you want to enjoy the simple things in life. The beach is enormous, stretching a good 1,300 metres long and 80 metres wide, so there’s space for everyone!
By the time the sun sets the promenade starts to come to life, with families out for a stroll, and couples checking out the rows of tents lit by fairy lights and selling trinkets, jewellery and arts and crafts.
Don’t panic if you’re travelling with children because they won’t have time to get bored. There are water parks and aquariums just a bus-ride away and the low-key nightlife won’t keep little ones up past their bedtime.
Things to do
Whether you’re holidaying with the family, your partner or with friends, there’s always something to do in Roquetas de Mar. Beyond the temptations of the beach, you’ll find some excellent shops along the seafront during the day, and pop-up stalls aplenty by night. Foodies will enjoy the range of traditional Spanish food, from tempting tapas to fresh fish and local meats.
If you’ve got kids, spend a day visiting the local aquarium or heading out to the Caba de Gato national park, which has acres of lush countryside rife with rare birds and fascinating wildlife.
Excellent beaches
There are several Blue Flag beaches along the coast, which provide a variety of spacious settings for you to relax in. You’re bound to find something you like, as some are made from a mix of shingle and sand, whilst others are made of sand that is powdery and white. However, what they all have in common is that they’re safe, clean and shelve gently into calm, warm waves.
Swaying palm trees and lush greenery is the backdrop to most of the beaches, which all have fantastic amenities and nearby cafés. Relax on sun loungers and take in the picturesque views of the coast. If you want a more upbeat beach day, Playa de Las Salinas is close by and provides a variety of water sports, ranging from jet skiing to paragliding.
History and culture
Once a small fishing village, Roquetas de Mar can be dated back to the Roman era. Its traditions can still be seen through their annual festivals, Moorish narrow streets and whitewash houses that blanket the hillside. Visit the military castle along the coast and learn about the history of the resort in the fascinating museums.
Visit Roquetas de Mar for a laid back holiday with a mix of modern amenities and beautiful landscapes. There’s a great range of restaurants, activities and shopping opportunities like The Grand Plaza Park and the weekly street market.
The nightlife
The nightlife in Roquetas de Mar is rather low key with the majority of after dark activities found in the bars, restaurants and hotels. This said, the evening entertainment does continue late into the evening, so it’s the perfect place for a late dinner and a cocktail or two afterwards. Dine on a delicious meal and choose from a range of menus including Chinese, Indian, Italian and traditional Spanish cuisine. Enjoy the upbeat atmosphere and live music found in the bars around the resort.
