Holidays in Golden Sands Resort

Golden Sands is one of Bulgaria’s biggest resorts on the Black Sea, and it’s easy to see why it grows more popular every year. The 4-kilometre long beach offers clean, warm sand, crystal-clear water, and a beachfront promenade that is packed with bars and shops. The seaside resort in northern Bulgaria enjoys a mild year-round climate, and there are a number of activities – in and out of the waves – for children and adults.

When not swimming in the sea or sunbathing on the beach, visitors can enjoy watersports such as jet skiing, windsurfing or diving. Other popular activities in Golden Sands include riding the slides at Aquapolis waterpark or taking a yacht excursion to peaceful, rugged coastlines nearby. The resort also features ‘balneotherapy’, which are spa treatments that make use of four natural mineral springs in Golden Sands. Evening entertainment includes a variety show at the casino and seafront nightclubs for drinks and dancing.

At 100 metres wide and with clean golden sand, the Blue Flag beach is the best place to perfect your tan. Water temperatures average 27°C in summer, which is just right for swimming, water skiing and taking scuba diving lessons. Beach volleyball, tennis, sailing and fishing are other sporty things to do in Golden Sands. From the marina, take a yacht excursion to a secluded beach or join an evening party cruise on the sea. You can even hire your own yacht and throw a private party.

Away from the beach, there are many family-friendly things to do in Golden Sands, such as miniature golf, two karting tracks and several playgrounds. Take the kids to Aquapolis Water Park for water slides and a mini climbing wall. Then pamper yourself with a hotel spa treatment that uses the healing properties from Golden Sands’ four natural mineral springs. Dining options range from taverns with traditional Bulgarian wine and cuisine to international dishes at restaurants and snack bars. Nightlife entertainment includes beachfront bars and discotheques, and the local casino has gambling as well as evening variety shows.

One of the most popular places to visit in Golden Sands is Kloster Aladja, a monastery three kilometres inland from the beach. There you can walk among the extraordinary medieval caves and catacombs carved in rock cliffs. Organised trips venture to Balchik, a picturesque village on sandy cliffs, 13 kilometres from the resort. The nearest city is Varna, only 18 kilometres away. As Bulgaria’s third-largest city, it offers plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment. At Varna’s Dolphinarium, watch the dolphins ‘play basketball’ and show off their synchronised swimming talents.

GOLDEN SANDS IS BEST FOR...

Families: Search for buried treasure on a Pirate Party boating excursion.
