Expected experience for the price we paid

It is our first time staying in this hotel and I would say that our experience is okay but not great. This is not a hotel for a family who is planning for a staycation as there are not much of amenities available. But I think this is perfect for someone who only needs a place to sleep for a night or two — and this was the reason why we booked this hotel. The reception is not big compared to other 4-star hotels we stayed in. The staffs in the reception when we arrived was okay but I am not sure if we were just tired but we didn’t experience this welcoming feeling from them though. We were given a piece of paper to fill in our private address which I was totally clueless of what it was for as this has already been provided as part of their booking process. When I asked, the receptionist only mentioned because we are tourist. For the room, it is okay but nothing fancy. There was a double bed and sofa bed already prepared for us when we arrived. In the room, there is a complimentary bottle of water and little coffee and tea corner. Along with it is the small table. Of course, like the other 4-star hotels, there are no room slippers and bathrobe provided. The air conditioning in the room we stayed in is not really good (room 227) as it was very hot even at the middle of the night. So we thought it was only on our first night but it was the same the next day even we set the air conditioning to the lowest temperature. It’s winter and I was wondering how much more would it be in the summer. Aside for the common toilet amenities, they also provide a lotion (which is not common for other 4 star hotels). So this is plus for this hotel. On the other hand, I would say that it is the time we spent in the breakfast that gave us “the better experience” of staying in this hotel. It’s not because of the food but because of the people working in there. They are very friendly, always smiling and very welcoming. So kudos to the team in the breakfast! Another thing that I really like is the free drink they offer in exchange of you not getting the housekeeping services (e.g. cleaning you room, fixing your bed etc.). I would say it is indeed a very good initiative and strategy for sustainability. Another thumbs up to this as I think this is very effective as I have seen several rooms in the corridor availing/supporting this initiative. Are we still going to stay in the future? Probably. It is 50-50 for us as we normally travel to pamper ourselves (staycation) but if we will be in the same situation where we only need a place to stay for a night or two, we would consider. I would say it was the expected experience for the price we paid. It was already a good deal — let’s say, you can stay for 2 nights in this hotel for a price of 1 night in the 5-star hotel nearby.

Old dirty hotel with horrible personnel. Room stinks, and it’s very old. Personnel not helpful, they don’t care actually. The location of hotel is good but everything else is terrible. To be avoided especially given it’s high prices relative to the offer

Stay here if the pride is right, but this is a 2.5 star hotel at the end of the day

Room was clean and the bed was comfortable. However no separate bathroom (the shower and the sink is inside the bedroom) and the tiny little desk make for a very basic no frills stay. This particular Select hotel seems to be of a lower caliber to others in the chain.
