    Geographical influences

Playa de Las Americas is in the south of Tenerife, which is one of the most westerly Canary Islands. Its location means it’s generally protected from stronger winds and rain by Mount Teide, the huge volcano in the centre of Tenerife. Resorts to the north of Mount Teide are slightly cooler and wetter.

The weather in Playa de Las Americas in December sees an average daytime temperature of 14°C. This can often rise to highs of around 22°C. Take a trip to this part of Tenerife’s stunning south coast and you’ll see plenty of sunshine in December, with ten hours on average each day. The sun doesn’t set until nearly 6.30pm at the end of the month, which means you can still lounge on a sunbed even though it’s the winter. The rainfall average is 139mm for the month, with about 20 days receiving some rain, but showers usually pass quite quickly. The Atlantic is warm in December and you can expect it to be above 20°C on most days, which is slightly warmer than even April and May.
