What’s the weather like in Elounda in January?
January has the coldest temperatures and the most rainfall of the year in Elounda but don’t let that put you off a visit in winter. The beaches are quiet and the town still enjoys plenty of daily sunshine with highs reaching the mid-teens around midday.Geographical influences
Elounda was once a fishing village but has since developed into a thriving holiday resort in Crete, Greece. Its location on the northern coast means the town doesn’t receive the same shelter from the central mountains on the island as further south. This means Elounda weather in January is slightly cooler and wetter than the south of Crete, but it’s still enjoyable with mild temperatures for sightseeing and enjoying a traditional seaside holiday. The peaceful atmosphere in town makes for a great stress-free retreat with fewer crowds than the peak months and almost as much sunshine.Averages
You’ll have ten hours of warm sunshine each day in Elounda in January, which is great for exploring the town and enjoying day-trips to nearby resorts and beaches. Daily temperatures reach up to 15°C and drop to average lows of 8°C overnight. The Mediterranean Sea is 17°C, which is still too cold for a comfortable swimming session. Humidity levels aren’t too high at around 70% for most of the month. Winds rarely exceed 11mph and the average monthly rainfall is around 78mm spread over almost 14 days of the month.
