What’s the weather like in Corfu in October?

Corfu’s the second largest island in the Ionian Sea, and sits just off Greece’s northwest coast. With typical long, hot Mediterranean summers, you’ll still get lots of sun in October, although there will be quite a bit of rain too.

Climatic influences

Corfu’s two mountain ranges divide the island into three districts and bring more rain to the island than other Greek islands. Cool breezes will keep you comfortable when temperatures are high, while Corfu has relatively high humidity which means there are occasional storms, though these usually clear quickly and leave behind sunny skies.

During October the average high temperature’s 23ºC, which is perfectly warm enough to relax on the beach when the weather’s clear. You should bring some warmer clothes for the evenings as things can get a bit chilly, while a waterproof jacket’s also a good idea. The average sea temperature’s 22ºC, while humidity’s low and ranges from 50% to well over 90%. There’s more rain as the month goes on, with an average of 120mm across 11 rainy days.

During October you can expect 11 hours of daylight with six hours of sunshine each day. UV levels will be moderate level so make sure you use sun cream, while sunset’s after 7.20pm at the start of the month; this gradually gets earlier until it’s before 6pm towards the end of October when daylight saving finishes.

Things to Do

The weather’s great in October for you to kick back on the beach and soak up the late summer sun, and there are lots of beaches to go to. They’re usually sandier in the west, while the east coast has calmer waters that are ideal for small children. Try Messonghi beach in the east, or the west coast’s Prasoudi beach with its tall cliffs. As temperatures are cooler than summer it’s a better time for you to sightsee or hike up Mount Pantokrator. You can drive up the island’s highest peak, which is just over 900m, and there’s tours that take you up. The panoramic views here are breathtaking, and there’s even a café at the top. Diving’s popular in Corfu, along with a visit to the fun-packed Aqualand waterpark.
