Almeria day trip

For a change of scenery, take a day trip to the capital, Almeria, just a half an hour drive away from Roquetas de Mar. Explore the charming city and wander the cobbled streets before grabbing a bite to eat in one of the quaint cafés.

There are lots of historical sites to see in Almeria, like the Cathedral de Almaria (Cathdral de la Encarnacion), which combines both Gothic and Renaissance architecture. The 16th century building is lavishly decorated with carved wood walls, textured ceiling and marble trimmings. The chapel also contains the ornamented tomb of the cathedrals founder, Bishop Villalan.

Another site you can't miss is the looming Alcazaba of Malaga that sits proudly on a hilltop with picturesque views of the city. See the preserved ruins of the 10th century structure and exhibited artefacts. Climb the steep stairs to the castle's entrance and explore the gloomy dungeons and the magnificent, military towers.
