Church of St Anthony in Lagos
For an activity away from the beach, visit the stunning Church of St Anthony. Sit outside and have a cold drink in a local café to enjoy the views of the white stone bell tower. The church is not only a fine example of Portuguese Baroque architecture but was built in honor of the patron saint Santo Antonio. Inside you can stroll around to see the painted windows, coat of arms and gold, detailed woodcarvings.
The church was originally built in 1707 but after an earthquake destroyed most of the building, only some of the original structure stands today. Visit the museum and art exhibit to learn more about the interesting monument, local religious history and to see ancient artifacts.
