Weather in Athens

Athens enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate with mild, damp winters and long, hot summers. There isn’t much annual rainfall, with most of it occurring in short showers throughout the winter months. Heat waves are also possible, increasing the average high to a sizzling 40°C. It’s never very humid in Athens, which is great if you want to enjoy a lot of outdoor activities during your visit. The average humidity is around 50% in July and August, but it’s still important to wear sun protection to prepare for high UV levels. If you prefer a cooler climate, the best time to visit Athens is in spring or autumn. Temperatures are usually in the 20s and you’ll avoid the peak crowds of the summer months.
