Club & Hotel Letoonia

Set on a private peninsula with views stretching out across the sea towards the town of Fethiye, Club & Hotel Letoonia is a family-friendly hotel in the Dalaman region of Turkey. The hotel has its own private beach where you can relax in the sunshine. There is also a dive centre owned by the hotel that organises trips out to the surrounding areas, as well as dive courses. There are three outdoor pools at the hotel, two of which have integrated kids sections. There is also a separate kids pool with small slides, as well as an indoor pool. The hotel runs a variety of sporting activities, such as beach volleyball, darts and football. A tennis court is also available. Eight different restaurants and a total of nine bars provide a variety of food and drink options. The hotel also has a disco bar that plays music later at night. Wi-Fi is available in selected areas. Both family and child-orientated entertainment is provided by the hotel every day. A kids club, a playground, and a playroom help to keep younger ages entertained. A range of beauty and wellness treatments are on offer for adults, including massages, a sauna, and a Turkish bath. There is also a gym if you fancy a workout.

Letoonia is on the Lycian peninsula on Turkeys south coast. In the nearby port town of Fethiye, Calis beach has seating on the sand, as well as restaurants and bars. It is 13.2km from the hotel. The town has a market which sells souvenirs, fresh meat, fish and vegetables. The region is also home to many other beaches, such as those around Olu Deniz, which is 21.2km from the hotel. The Blue Lagoon beach is one of the most popular in that area. Potential day trips from the hotel include boat cruises to nearby islands, such as Tersane Adasi.

The hotel has three buffet restaurants two snack bars and three a la carte restaurants serving Seafood, Turkish and Asian cuisine. Outdoor seating is available. There are nine bars in the hotel, including a cafe that offers Turkish coffee and tea, plus shisha.

The hotel kids clubs run for children aged between 4 and 12 years. They include activities such as face painting, games and cartoons.

It was my fourth time at Letoonia.I went alone and it was as much fun as going with my teenage daughter. The setting is simply fantastic with a view on the sea, mountains and beaches. I particularly love going in October as it is not crowded,nonetheless,everything is perfect from the various food and snacks,performances and sportive activities. I always look for to speak with staff members who are working so hard to help,so well done to them ! I book again for October 2022 and I will go with my daughter and my best friend who can’t wait to come too !

LETOONIA 2021 Revisited

In 2020, we were on a waiting list of our Tour Operator only to learn in the end that the hotel did not open at all because of the uncertainties imposed on the Tourism Industry. Therefore, we were eager to find out how the Hotel Management would cope in 2021 with the challenges imposed by various authorities and Tour Operators as far as numerous hygienic rules and regulations were involved. To make a long story short “EXELLENT”. Here are some details: The ROOM TV displayed several pages in various languages giving a detailed description of all efforts the Letoonia had undertaken to secure proper hygienic standards and what was expected from the guests in order to protect themselves and other guests. Among them: All RESTAURANTS provided mask and plastic gloves during opening hours. GUESTS were instructed to wear mask and gloves whilst moving around and/or collecting food from the distribution centers. The same rules (no gloves) applied for all other indoor rooms like Hotel Reception and Bars, Guest Relations Office and so on. TABLES in the restaurants were cleaned and disinfected after every use. FOOD prepared by cooks on site was separated behind glass curtains. The same applied for almost all BARS. LIQUID disinfectant was provided almost everywhere especially at every door and public “hotspot”. PICTOGRAMS to wear mask and keep “Social Distance” where present on all spots where it deemed necessary, like reception, public washrooms, elevators and bars… The Letoonia management had even reserved about 12 rooms in a wing of the main building to serve as “Quarantine Center” (see Photo below) in case of need. During our stay the “Isolation Zone” was not in use, however it was good to know. All staff members, but especially those working in service, tried their best to enforce the necessary hygienic measures. Regrettably, it was obvious that especially guests from Russia and Ukraine - both countries with an average vaccination rate of ~ 30% at the time of our stay in autumn -- had problems with this sort of “restrictions”. We always felt uneasy whilst using one of the five ELEVATORS with a floor area of barely 3m³ - restricted now for the use by 4 persons - when other guests did not wear their masks. Keeping the necessary “Social Distance” was impossible even with mask. CHANGES: We were surprised to see that many investments had been made in 2019/20, which led to a number of changes. Here we list some of them: The Stage-House had been demolished and build from scrap, thus resulting in a new and extended “Fantasia Restaurant” on the ground floor below, serving excellent “à la carte” dishes and desserts during lunch-time and some sweets in the afternoon. The former “Marina Restaurant” was also demolished and instead a new stylish restaurant “Cactus” was built with an annex for the new “Italian Restaurant”. The former all night “Panorama Bar” was extended and converted into “Chopstick Restaurant”. The “Dolphin Restaurant” remained unchanged and served excellent fish menus in a wide variety at the waterfront. During our stay, all “special” restaurants were free of charge, provided you got your reservation. WATER-SPORTS and BEACHES: The “Watersports” location moved to the opposite side of the bay, giving them more room and a lot of new equipment. The beach walkway, which has a length of about 2.8km, was all along newly paved with natural stone brick and all sunshades were replaced and regrettably also the “Sun, Moon and Star” lampposts. The old water-slide next to the staircase at the pool was demolished and a new one added to the existing ones, making a total of three there. ANIMATION: The Animation Team 2021 comprised less members than in previous years, but enjoyed apparently the new stage and new electronic stage equipment. The daily activities were extended offering also some new programs like Yoga, Boxing, and Dancing. THE DJ: still has not changed his attitude i.e. plays the music only he likes - regardless of the Guest mix or age -- and at volumes which make it impossible to enjoy a drink and a good talk at the “Agora Bar” Apart from the daily evening show offered by the animation team, there was life music performance on some evenings. This year a band from Cuba performed and a Combo led by a lady – playing traverse flute - we believe to know her since 15 years when she played solo in the “Moonshine Restaurant”. Since then she has not changed her repertoire, nor has she extended it. It is simply boring to listen to the Top 15 from 13 years ago played in the same order each and every season we stay at the Letoonia. GUEST MIX: This year our friends from GB were not yet allowed to travel to Turkey. We missed them dearly. Tourists from Russia, Ukraine, some Bulgarians and a number of Germans and Belgians made up for the average mixture of about 500 guests. This changed suddenly, when a group of about 600 tourists arriving by bus from Bulgaria flooded the Hotel. Whilst we were already used to the “Gin Week” early in June when the British flood the hotel for about 10 days, we now were able to get accustomed to the “Vodka Week”. This visit from Bulgaria seems to happen every year for about a week early in October. We would have preferred to miss the Vodka experience. FOOD and SERVICE: We had the impression that taste, variety and quality of the food was at least the same if not improved compared to previous years. This is very true for the new “à la carte” restaurants. We felt also that especially the “fresh food preparation” had improved and extended. The SERVICE was impeccable, all of them wearing masks. Due to the hygienic regulations, the staff had a different and higher workload than in previous years, and sometimes seemed understaffed especially during the “Vodka-Week”. We recognized a number of waiters and bar-staff we knew from previous stays and we learned that almost every one of them had lost a family member to Covid-19. We also learned how difficult their economic situation became during 2020 when they had no contracts (jobs) and had to rely on the support from their government. Therefore, it was a joy to see how happy they all were being able to serve guests again. Doing everything to make their guests happy and have a good laugh and a nice chat with them. BRAVO.

Beautiful October Half Term Holiday

We love this place, so relaxing, lovely fresh and healthy Mediterranean food with delicious desserts, we looked forward to every meal time. We stayed in the main hotel which was perfect, we used the hammam lots of times it was a real treat and highly recommended! A choice of three beaches was a luxury, plenty of sun loungers and hammocks to choose from as it was pretty quiet being the end of the season, so no crowds or queues but enough people to create a lovely village atmosphere in the evening for layed back drinks and entertainment. The views of the sea, mountains and marina are beautiful and theres lush greenery and flowers everywhere. We went for a rest and it was perfect, the non motorised watersports were included and our teenagers enjoyed the watrslides and swimming out to the pontoon. The Dolphin fish restaurant was stunning, a real highlight of the week. Service was great and staff were friendly, our room was kept really clean. Restaurants and bars felt covid safe. The shuttle boat was great and taxis into Fethiye are cheap so easy options to leave the hotel if you want to, which we did a few times. Having a pool towel service was really good, clean dry towels whenever you want them. Only negatives were the pools were too cold to use (but the sea was a nice temperature) and the ala carte restaurants got booked up really quickly so we couldn't use all three. We went with Jet 2 Holidays and couldn't fault them from start to finish it was a smooth process considering the pandemic. The weather was between 23 - 26 degrees every day at the end of October but nights got a bit chilly which was fine with a cardigan. It rained a few times but the hotel managed this really well so it didnt bother us, we got plenty of warm sun to lay in over the week. Were booking again for next year and cant wait to go back!
