Good but could do with a couple minor improvements
Visited Altura in August 2022 with my partner and 2 teenage kids (17 and n15). Transfer from airport was around 30 minutes and check in at hotel was swift. From landing at Zante airport, we were in our room in about 1 hour! Rooms - decent size for what we needed. Don't really go on holiday to spend my whole time in the room! Could do with some drawers for your stuff but we managed. Air con worked well but my son had to get someone from reception so sort his out initially. Bathroom was clean with shower (always enough hot water) toilet and sink. Nice balcony with sea view. Was nice to sit before dinner and chill. Rooms were immaculately clean and modern. Always plenty of clean towels. Food - this is what slightly lets it down. It was ok and we always found something to eat. Some days were better than others. Kids never complained so must have been ok. Plenty of options although could have done with a bit more selection on the pastry side at breakfast like pancakes, waffles, brioche etc instead of just croissants........every day. There always seemed to be a shortage of cutlery too and nearly all the tables set up for 3. It would have been so simpler to just put cutlery in a plastic cutlery drawer by the plates and let people help themselves. Snack bar also hit and miss. Gyros was lush but some days it seemed to take forever to get served. Ice-cream, served by the barman, was not available for 50% of the time we were there too. Would be better if they could just put a small freezer by the bar so people can help themselves and the barman can concentrate on serving drinks :-) Drinks - never been to an all-inclusive with such a wide selection of drinks and cocktails. I'm not a wine or beer drinker so the spirit selection was very impressive (unbranded Malibu, Amaretto, Gin, Vodka, Baileys etc). The cocktails were good too and never had to queue to get served. Pools - 2 pools. The upstairs one is quieter and despite people saying it's adult only there are no signs saying so. The metal stairs to and from the bar do get very hot in the sun! The larger downstairs pool is busier but is closer to the bar. A couple of days the water clarity in the big pool wasn't great so we avoided it until it improved (couple of days). Your are allowed inflatables in both pools. Sunbeds - we did the typical up at 5am to reserve them as we had teenagers who wanted to chill and be all sat together. There were sunbeds reserved before then (I expect people were putting towels out the night before). This is where the hotel could massively improve. There is absolutely tons of space and I could see piles of broken sunbeds just over the wall. Just get them fix up! They could literally double the amount of sunbeds and there still be heaps of room. I did notice some mornings people wondering around with no beds available. Couple of young lads ended up lying on their towels on the hard tiles! Entertainment - mmmmm. Not great. It was basically bingo, karaoke and Greek dancers one night and it didn't start until really late. I think the animation team were spread out over 3 hotel so there always seemed to be a "the entertainment will start in 10 minutes" then them currying off for half an hour. Daytime was aqua gym (this was good), stretching (ok) and water polo (which was usually just a bunch of grown men trying to out do each other). Location - about a 10 minute walk to the sandy beach which is gorgeous and crystal clear water. There are the usual jestski's, paragliding, banana boats, doughnuts etc available. 5 minute walk to the bars, restaurants and shops. Tsivili itself is a nice little town with a nice feel. There are two water parks, one I think is a 20-30 minute walk away. We did go out to the other one by coach and it was fab. We also went on the blue cave boat trip which was fantastic (booked through one of the little shops in the town and NOT through TUI who were charging an extra £20 each). One thing I will say is that we noticed a lot of 'moaners'. The type in a large family group who spend their entire day griping about little stuff instead of trying to enjoy themselves. In the restaurant one night, one chap went and sat a table that wasn't set (even though there were several set tables available) then proceeded to complain that there was no cutlery on his table!!!!! Greece is beautiful and the people are so lovely, warm and friendly. All in all we had a great holiday. We go what we paid for. I think people try and pay as little as possible and expect 5 star luxury. I would recommend this place.
Dismal Hotel
AVOID AVOID AVOID this hotel ,We arrived on the 13th October this year and immediately was disgusted with the hotel. We went to our room and it was disgusting we looked in the shower room and it was just cement with the shower. We then checked the room the Air Conditioning filter had not been cleaned in months it was full of dust and mould. We went straight to the reception and asked for a room change they did but the only difference was the shower was tiled. The first afternoon we noticed that by the bar the beef burgers was left out for over Five hours and they were dry and hard and inedible. The night time buffet was dry cold, we found out the food was brought over form its sister hotel which we thought was very strange. The next day we had enough and asked for a change of hotel which cost us extra money we did not have because we hd booked all inclusive. The hotel is supposed to be a Tui Blue it was more like Fawlty Towers, It was disgusting and dreary it was defiantly not a 3 star hotel. I have never been to a Hotel where so many guests had so many complaints. There were many people that were discussed with the hotel. Please don't let this happen to anyone else it ruined our holiday. Honest review!!!!! I will start with the positives..The girl on the pool bar during the day was brilliant, always smiling and always chatty. The rooms were on the small side but cleanish and we got clean towels everyday. The drinks were also good just wasn’t enough choice for me but still enough to have a good time. The location was brilliant. The bad points.. the food wasn’t good. It was warmed up food from their sister hotel next door. There wasn’t a lot of choice either. I look forward to breakfast the most but the eggs were hard, same for the beans and the bacon wasn’t great either. Having said that the 3 people I was there with said they didn’t mind the food even though it was basic. We ate out most of the time even though it was all paid for. The entertainment was dreadful. It was just a man playing the organ every night with the odd bit of singing. Even though he was really friendly we drank out every single night because it was unbearable. On the 2nd day it rained heavily which in turn made the main pool like a swamp..full of mud and it remained like that for the rest of our holiday. There was a pool at the top but was full of cups and plates from guests leaving them and not throwing them in the bin. We didn’t see the pools cleaned once.. Our shower was poor, took 5 mins to warm up and wasn’t very powerful at all. This hotel could be great with a few changes.. Overall it was ok. Would we stop here again? No It was a hotel that didn’t provide for its guests. We saw at least 3 couples change hotel after a couple of days … It wasn’t as bad as that for us to change..
