Aegean Suites Hotel is a boutique hotel set on the slopes above Megali Ammos Beach. This Blue Flag beach has a long stretch of sand and clear, shallow waters where you can swim or paddle. You can also find more secluded spots on this popular stretch of coastline near the rocks. You'll be within walking distance of the centre of Skiathos Town, offering a balance between city and shore. The hotel is centred around its pool area which looks out towards the sea. Here there's a bar and restaurants lining the sun terrace, with outdoor and pergola-style eating areas so you can enjoy breakfast, lunch and dinner with a view. There's also 24-hour room service if you prefer to order in. The rooms are bright and airy and have modern furnishings. If you're after extra relaxation, the hotel has a spa offering treatments and massages, as well as a whirlpool. If you like to keep fit on holiday, there's also a gym. In the evening you can enjoy drinks from the hotel's champagne bar before heading into Skiathos Town for its waterfront bars, lively nightclubs or relaxed jazz clubs. The hotel is 50m from the outskirts of Meagali Ammos Beach and 1km from the centre of Skiathos Town. As well as lively nightlife, the town has plenty of shops to browse. Also in the town centre are the remains of a medieval castle. Sitting on top of a hill, it's worth the climb to get there, as you'll be rewarded with views of the island and out to the sea. If you want to explore more of the island, you can take a boat trip from the port to Lalaria Beach, where you'll pass several caves before seeing the arched cliffs that rise from the sea.

The hotel's restaurants are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. You can have lunch at the restaurant by the pool, and enjoy a range of Mediterranean cuisine at dinner. There's also a champagne bar and a pool bar which serving a variety of soft and alcoholic drinks.

Missed the mark

We only use a hotel on holiday for sleeping in and breakfast really however we always book higher end so our relaxation time is the best possible as they tend to get the basics right. With this in mind we booked the Garden View Junior Suite - the most simple room in the hotel but with the luxury of 5*. How wrong we were. The positives were it was on the first level of rooms so only 26 stairs to access it, there was a large sitting room, bedroom plus shower room. It did have a slight view of the sea too, however the room was most definitely not 5* which was highly disappointing. There were 2 single beds pushed together which drifted apart in the night when you turned over, the WiFi in the room was terrible or non existent, there was a small basic TV in the corner (you couldn’t lie in bed and watch it), the lamps has black tape around some of the plugs, we were meant to have complimentary water every day but this only happened half the time, the room overall had old fashioned decor and facilities, some of the towels were fraying at the edges quite badly and the room overall was dark. The first 2 nights the air con unit was switching itself off and on and beeping, we spoke to the hotel on the second night. They tried to send someone to fix it whilst we were in bed, no joy, so they then sent us to another room to sleep that night. That room was what we were expecting…modern, light, one full superking bed, smart TV mounted on the wall…we weren’t expecting a hot tub or anything extra we just wanted the basics done right and it was clear we were in the cheap seats. If that was the standard of room we wanted we would have booked a 3* and saved a lot of money. We spoke to other guests who had upgraded suits which sounded nicer however there were mountains of stairs to climb to get to your room. In some cases over 100!! They were also were given the brand new towels (lucky them) but bits of white fluff came off when they used them. One guest who had the most expensive suit referred to the hotel as “faulty towers”…I think this summed it up… Our visit was the opening week of the season. The staff were excellent and tried to go above and beyond and we cannot fault them. The breakfast menu was good. Lots of different coffees, coked breakfasts centring around eggs, pancakes, french toasts etc and freshly squeezed juices. However it was clear they were understaffed and had not worked together before so breakfast orders were wrong etc and you waited a bit too long for things. We ordered french toast and was sent dry toasted bread with the toppings over. Myself and other guests then had to explain to the chef what french toast was and how to make it. Again it’s the basics which is what you pay for in 5*. Maria F the restaurant supervisor was fantastic however and deserves a special mention! The pool was great, about 25 comfy sun beds with towels, a pool bar which great cocktails and the view looked out over the sea. It was next to a road so I can imagine sunbathing in the peak of the season with traffic zooming past is not the most relaxing. Location wise it was great (one of the main reasons we booked it) right next to bus stop number 5, a 20 min walk to town and a short walk to the beach. The hotel could also organise a lot of things for you, they ordered our quad bike which was dropped off to us at the hotel and picked up from there too. I wouldn’t put this as a 5*…maybe for Skiathos but not on par with others in Europe based on our room. We still had a fantastic holiday but maybe that’s because we didn’t spend too much time in the hotel…

Excellent hotel. Small, luxurious and wonderful staff that really take care of you. Would absolutely recommend.

What a wonderful hotel. Our stay was lovely from start to finish. The staff could not have been more helpful and friendly. We were upgraded to a sea view on arrival and the room was spacious and very comfortable. There are a lot of steps but we were lucky as ours was one of the lower level ones but still with a lovely view from the balcony. The only slight negative was the road can be a little noisy at times as it’s right on the main road in and out of Skiathos town. But overall the location was very good - right opposite the beach and very easy to walk into town with all the numerous and excellent restaurants. Tip - find the route through the back streets to avoid using the main road. We would definitely recommend this small but beautiful hotel, and Skiathos itself is a lovely island. One to return to.

Great hotel!

Highly recommend this lovely hotel. Beautiful setting, a stone's throw away from Megali Ammos beach and a 10 minute walk from Skiathos Town along the beach. The room was gorgeous, with lovely furnishings and facilities. Great pool area overlooking the sea. The staff were really friendly and, as it's a small team, we got to know them during our stay and everyone made us feel very at home. Breakfast was delicious - an a la carte menu - and we enjoyed some lunches by the pool too.
