Kamari Beach

Spend a unique day in the warm Greek sunshine with a visit to Kamari Beach. As Santorini’s most famous beach, this volcanic stretch is a sight to behold.

Sweeping along Kamari’s coastline for two kilometres, the black sand and shingle is an incredible contrast to the blue sky and clear turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea. Stepping onto the beach, it feels like an alien landscape compared to the sandy stretches you’re probably used to.

Pick a sun lounger with a thatched shade and sit back to admire the scenery. Gaze up at the
Messavouno mountain, the home of Ancient Thera which keeps a watchful eye over Kamari Beach. When it’s time to cool off, go for a refreshing dip in the inviting sea.

The beach shelves quite sharply at the water’s edge, so keep an eye on your little ones if they’ve gone off for a splash. Kamari Beach has been awarded a Blue Flag though, so you can be sure it’s nice and safe, as well as clean.

As the beach stretches right across Kamari’s waterfront, there are plenty of options for grabbing a light lunch or a cool drink. If you want to inject a bit of action into your day, then have a go at some of the watersports on offer. Keep a tight grip on the Flyfish as it leaps up into the air, or go on a
diving trip to explore the secrets of the sea bed.

After spending the day at Kamari Beach, head up the Messavouno mountain to Ancient Thera as the sun starts to go down. Don’t forget your camera as the sunset promises to be breathtaking.
