Located on the Greek island of Rhodes and facing the majestic Trianta Bay, Sol by Melia Cosmopolitan Rhodes is a 4 star hotel suiting both families and couples. The beach is just a stone’s throw away, while there are numerous tavernas nearby. More adventurous travellers may want to make use of the conveniently located water sports rental service.
If you like to keep active on holiday there’s plenty of choice, swim in one of the two outdoor pools, join an aerobics or aqua aerobics session, hit the gym for a workout, hurl some French bowls, challenge your partner to a game of table tennis or enjoy a game of darts. Prefer to relax? There’s a Spa & Wellness Centre to cater for your needs. For the little ones aged 4-12, there’s a mini club, as well as a disco, children’s play area and a separate shallow pool.
The all-inclusive service includes a full breakfast with show cooking (or a continental service for those who like a long lie-in). When it comes to dinner choose from the buffet service, that includes themed nights, or devour Greek specialities at the a la carte Elies (reservation required). Light bites including fresh salads, pastries, ice cream, cakes and biscuits are available from the snack bar, as well as a wide range of refreshing beverages.
In the evening enjoy a local beer, wine or ouzo in the lobby, while relaxing to the music and admiring the sunset. All-inclusive ends at 11pm, with drinks available until 1am (for a surcharge). For a more lively night, look out for the activities organised as part of the hotel’s entertainment programme, including folklore dancing and live performances from musicians.
The air conditioned rooms include a sofa (which can also be used as a bed for a third person), WiFi, satellite TV, a terrace or balcony, a mini fridge with complimentary bottled water, a hairdryer and tea & coffee making facilities. The superior options are located on higher levels, for more breathtaking views across the bay. Family rooms feature either a double sofa bed or bunk beds for the little ones, with cots available for the smallest guests.
The Old Town of Rhodes is just over 15 minutes away by car. Here you can wander the ancient streets and see numerous styles of building, each telling you something about the history of the island. The children may wish to visit the nearby aquarium; this isn’t just a tourist attraction, it was built as a research facility and they care for injured creatures before they are released back into the sea. Rodini Park is also in the area, which dates back to Roman times and claims to be the first landscaped park in the world. With paths arranged around a stream, it’s the ideal place to escape the heat, where you will be joined by feathery friends including peacocks.
