Euro Village Achilleas

The family-friendly EuroVillage Achilleas hotel sits by the beach in the lovely area of Mastichari on the north west coast of the Greek island of Kos. Guests young and old will be kept entertained throughout the day with on-site activities for, all as well as regular animation and events laid on by the international team.

There are two buffet restaurants at the hotel, one serving a collection of your favourites from a range of local and international cuisines and the other with changing theme menus. There’s also a large bar and in the summer months a pool bar, so you can grab a drink while you lay on your lounger.

The large sandy beach is just by the hotel and there are two freshwater pools including a kids pool as well as extensive lush grounds for you to wander around.

For sports lovers there’s a range of options available including a gym, tennis court, basketball, mini golf plus watersports.

The nearby fishing village of Mastichari is worth walking to and if you fancy a trip further afield the bus has a regular shuttle to Kos Town with its captivating harbour and great bars and restaurants. There is also plenty of local culture to explore on the island of Kos, home to Hippocrates, the father of medicine, with historic villages inland and charming fishing neighbourhoods. A fantastic water park is nearby with on-site facilities to help you and the family make a full day of splashing around and hurtling down slides.

Sleep Quality

Enjoyed our week there

Good all inclusive hotel staff mostly helpful, although we found some a bit overworked & therefore service suffered! We were there during Covid & foundnot annoying that not all nationalities were told to wear masks! Front of house manager Vaso was outstanding as were all receptionists. Vaso's guest care was 1st class & after being hotel in management in the distant past I can tell she'll soon be manager of a hotel soon. We stayed in Mastihari before at the Mastihari bay hotel & they could learn a thing or two from Vaso on how to treat their guests at reception. My only complaint was the sunbeds were constantly being reserved by towels over them from early morning & no one ever took them off! So lots of sun loungers were empty all day to then be used afternoons when people returned from daytrip etc! Food was a bit hit and miss but acceptable, Coffee at breakfast was ghastly from machine we found microwaving milk and adding black coffee was the best option so those machines need improvement. Rooms were lovely & housekeeping was excellent. Thanks again Vaso

Much better than we expected

We had a great time. We really didn’t know what to expect: 1. What was included 2. The state of the accommodation 3. What the Covid precautions would be Taking these in order (bear in mind that we were “all inclusive”) Free Wifi, free safe, free sunbeds and parasol on the beach, free TV in the room. The whole site of "the village"is enormous. Our accommodation was fine. We paid extra for a sea view and just about got it! We got a ground floor room in a block of 4 that was large, clean and very well maintained by our cleaner, Sylvana. I got the impression that it may have been renovated recently. The room was down the hill from Reception, the restaurant and the pool – that gave us some welcome exercise going back for meals. The grounds and surroundings were very well maintained. We were only 150 metres from the beach, and about 200 metres from the nearest snack bar. The sea was very choppy for the first couple of days, but then became much calmer. Perfectly good for swimming. The beach itself is pretty small but, as I said, the sunbeds were free so why go elsewhere? You can walk to the nearest village Mastichari in about 20 minutes. Regarding Covid, the restaurant was “serve-yourself buffet”. You were required to wear (your own) mask whenever you were not seated, and plastic gloves (provided by the hotel) when you were touching the serving utensils. Perfectly sensible. The food itself was fine, perhaps uninspiring but you won’t fail to find something to eat. The only negatives (probably due to Covid) were that there was no literature in the room describing the facilities available, and no kettle in the room (I wish we’d taken our own). Also the TV programmes available in English were very limited – we only found BBC World News, CNN and Bloomberg – all very repetitive. There was more available in German, to match the majority of the customers. Excellent value for money and well run in very difficult times.

Good value

Stayed for a week at end sept, travelled with jet2. I always think you must remember the price you paid when reviewing somewhere - for the price we paid here it was excellent. We paid extra for a superior room. Fortunate to get a sea view in a quiet part of the complex. Room was very nice, kept spotlessly clean every day. On arrival, we asked for mattress toppers and 2 extra pillows - came that day and we needed them as mattress was not comfy without it.Some afternoons, we couldnt get any hot water for the shower after coming back from the pool. We reported this, and they seemed to sort it. The pool area is the highlight of the place, it is huge and very nice. Well sheltered from the breeze. A massive large pool and smallkids one. Lots of sun loungers and umbrellas. Pool bar is fine. Pool itself was quite cool, but ok once you were in. We never did manage to get pool towels from the spa, they either didnt have any or there was no one there when we tried. Food - i liked the food overall, but the huge issue was how cold it was from the buffet. The theme restaurant wasnt open (due to,covid apparently?). The food on the buffet was the coldest i have experienced, a real shame as it was generally nice food. We found a microwave in the restaurant, beside the toaster, and were heating up our meals. If the hotel could improve one thing - it would be to keep the food hot. The live cooking station was always better, especially the fresh fried eggs in the morning. We were nearly always able to get a table outside, but there is limited tables on the outside area. Snacks from pool bar were generally awful. The pizza was not worthy of the name pizza - cold congealed cheese on something like bread. But the gyros at lunch were excellent. Both the chicken and pork ones were great - the burger ones not so good. Main bar was very nice, with lots of outdoor seating. Reasonable range of cocktails, with a menu of those included on AI. The wine was not good - red & white (no rose). I added a splash of lemonade which made it ok. Beer was fine. Water in restaurant was fine to drink, but too salty in rooms (they do say its not drinkable). Get 6 bottles of water from shop across road = 9 litres for €2.40 Walk into matachari was lovely. Good daytrip into kos town. The beach was ok, but there was a very strong breeze most of the time, sometimes a full on wind. It churned up the sea a lot. There were quite a few rocks around, so we didnt fancy risking the sea in those conditions. Entertainments were ok. Good aqua gym each day. Boules some days, pilates/yoga. Also table tennis. They tried to get people for water polo, but some days not enough people were up for it. The minigolf is not worth doing, just a concrete course where the ball bounces everywhere. Gym was shut (due to covid) Evening entertainment seemed ok, but we dont normally bother much - happier on our balcony (we got some nice rose from a shop in matachari - was too expensive at shop across the road) Staff were all nice, friendly & helpful. Overall - a good holiday and great value. Hadnt realised north side of kos was so windy, guessing it was worse because of time of year? But we were fine by the pool. The most important thing the hotel could do to improve would be to keep the food warmer in the restaurant.
