Too many negatives to stay again.
I stayed here with my partner for two weeks bed and breakfast, following a holiday in the canaries being cancelled due to the current issues with flights. We booked two days before travelling in haste, and unfortunately I do regret not having done some research prior to leaving. I will try to be as objective as possible below as I am certainly not writing this to discourage others from staying, however I wish I knew more of what to expect when arriving. The good - Staff were really friendly, the hotel was clean, with fresh towels provided daily and the room cleaned each morning. The hotel encourages keys to be handed in on the way out each day and we found this helpful and took some of the stress out of the day, especially when going in the sea etc and worrying about things going missing. I left several expensive watches in the room each day as well as a wallet and sometimes phone, and nothing was ever amiss. The food was the exact same each morning. Bread, butter, jam, ham, cheese, yoghurt, fruit, and three different types of cereal. There was also cucumber, tomato, and olives, and two types of cake (the lemon was nice but the other plain/sometimes marbled cake - I guess there was some variation to the breakfast!, tasted quite dry most days. Other wise the food was as expected. Internet was free - stable but fairly slow. Any questions we had regarding the area or general queries were always met with a smile and I never saw any of the rudeness mentioned by others on this site when interacting with the staff. The bad - The room was very warm on our arrival at close to midnight and after unsuccessful attempts to get the air conditioning working we were advised this would cost €119 for the two weeks. Not the end of the world but I holiday several times a year and can’t remember the last time I had to pay extra for air con. It did however make the room as cold as you could hope for and there were never any issues throughout our stay (be mindful the key is slotted in to a switch in the room so all electrics will be knocked off a few minutes after leaving! This makes it difficult to keep the room cool (understandable with the cost of air con) but frustratingly we also couldn’t get the water cold in the fridge until our second night by which time we have been in the room long enough. During our stay there were lots of people drinking heavily. This made the corridor quite noisy at times later in the evening/early hours. The toilets in ours and a neighbouring room appeared to share a vent? Making all noise from the bathroom audible. I could hear when they used the toilet graphically and clearly, and unfortunately I assume the same could be said for them. As our neighbours appeared to be some of those enjoying a few drinks whilst away we were also treated to loud sounds of vomiting echoing around our bathroom each morning. No iron available in the room or drinks facilities e.g. kettle, cups. I mentioned above that the room was cleaned each day, but it was a little challenging timing this. Sometimes we would be up and sorted and never see them, however the next day we might do the same thing and the cleaner then turn up whilst we are getting ready. So the following day we then assuming the cleaner with show up, so we hold off getting ready, only for them to then show up an hour or two later than the previous day/s. Easily solved with a notice for the door, but frustrating there was not one. Especially as we were nearly caught naked a couple of times whilst applying cream or getting out of the shower. The shower was very small. My partner is tiny and she couldn’t move for the shower curtain , which hangs short around 20cm off the floor so the bathroom gets flooded every time you shower, wrapping around and sticking to her. I am much bigger so you can imagine how much I enjoyed it. In the end we opted for showering without using the curtain and letting the floor dry on its own. Biggest disappointment - The last day were were flying later and requested to keep the room for an extra 8 hours. The told us to request this the day before we left so we did on the morning and they said they would check with the reservations team. We then checked back at 5pm and were told we could. Then were asked if we had a receipt from alma or bar 1960 - we hadn’t kept one. We were then told we would have received a discount but now it would be €48.50. We never did find out how much we could have saved but it’s frustrating given how early we enquired about keeping the room that nobody though to tell us to keep a receipt - The air con is as also knocked off when we had returned from the beach to get ready for the bus to the airport. Which just left a bit of a sour taste considering we had paid almost if not the entire cost of a room and breakfast for 8 hours in a room, 2 of which were actually spent in there because we went to the beach. Aside from feeling ripped off and a little mugged off by our final day experience, I haven’t been too bothered about the other issues mentioned. This is a case of getting exactly what you pay for, or it certainly was for us. We did a last minute budget holiday out of necessity, and certainly won’t be in a hurry to do so again. We are pretty chilled out and took most of the above in our stride, however the noise and the bathroom situation are definitely something that will cause issues for many people, so well worth considering before booking.
Definitely budget
Just returned from a two week stay here with my partner. This was the first time we’d done more of a “budget” stay so we were a bit apprehensive. The positives: For the most part, the staff were all helpful and friendly. The gentleman who worked the reception on an evening / night was the best of the bunch. The rooms are very basic, but it’s a get what you pay for situation. Having said that, the beds were one of the comfiest I’ve ever slept on. On the first night we put the thick top covers under our pillows and then when the room was cleaned the next day they had provided us both with an extra pillow which was lovely. Rooms were cleaned daily and fresh towels also given daily. I noticed in other reviews that people complained about towels not being changed often or having to ask for them to be changed, but we did not have this issue. The cleaners did come quite early (around 9am) but if we were still in the room they would come back later. Would be helpful if the hotel provided those hanging notices for the door handles which let the cleaners know if you did or didn’t require your room cleaned. The hotel overall is very clean and the cleaning staff do an excellent job. The hotel is situated in a great location, really close to the beach with some beautiful views. We stayed on the 2nd floor so can only imagine how nice the views were from the floor above us. The not so positives: Air conditioning is not provided in the room for free, you do have to pay for this. We didn’t get it until the second day to see if we could manage without it (absolutely not, it was boiling!) and it cost €111 for 13 days. So definitely take that into consideration for your budget if you’re staying here. The bathroom is also very small, I’m not a big person and the shower cubicle was tiny to the point where you are suffocated by the shower curtain. The whole bathroom floods when you have a shower as the curtain does nothing to stop this happening, but it looks like it’s designed this way as there is a drain on the floor. We stayed bed and breakfast and only ate breakfast in the hotel. This was a continental style breakfast with toast, cheese, ham, cereal, fruit and yoghurt. The breakfast was the same every day, no variation at all. The food did taste nice but the coffee wasn’t great and there is no facilities in the rooms (kettle, cups) to make your own which is disappointing. Apparently this is due to covid regulations, but I’d argue you use the same cups downstairs so can’t see why this would be a covid regulation if they are all cleaned in the same place. On the last day we requested late checkout. We were advised to ask about this the day before leaving to check availability. We requested this and were told they would check reservations and let us know later in the day. We came back to the hotel that afternoon to be told we could keep the room until 8pm (when we were getting picked up) for €50. This price seems pretty steep for half a day. We were then told we could get discount if we had a receipt from the Alma restaurant. We of corse did not have a receipt as we were not told this information prior which I definitely believe we should have been told. On the last day, we left for the beach and came back to the hotel for a shower etc prior to leaving. We came back to the room to find out the air conditioning that we had purchased had been turned off. After the price we had payed for the air conditioning, and the hefty fee to keep the room for a few extra hours, you’d think they would keep the air conditioning turned on. For these reasons we would not stay here again. But of corse this is a budget hotel so I would read the reviews and make your own mind up wether you think you’d enjoy staying here.
2 week away
A beautiful venue is stunning surroundings but unfortunately not upto scratch. I don't expect 5 stars when you come to Greece but I do expect good service and this hotel lacks direction the staff are not overly friendly as the lady doing breakfast will day good morning then growl at you and reception are not the most competent as they always have to come back to you with a questions asked. But the positive feedback I will give is its very convenient to everywhere and one of the most comfortable beds I've had I a hotel so well done on your bed. Very large pool and clean rooms
