Ikos Oceania is a 5 star family-friendly resort in Nea Moudania, 60km south of Thessaloniki on the Greek mainland. You’ll be just 100m from the sandy beach and 1.5km from the town centre. The hotel boasts two infinity pools and three separate pools for the kids. And when you want a cool, refreshing drink you won’t have to get up, as the waiter will bring it to your sunlounger.

While the little ones are enjoying themselves at the kids' club (open to 4-12yr olds), you may choose to join one of the hotel's activities including yoga, beach volleyball, tennis, aqua aerobics or Pilates. Over at the spa a range of massages and beauty treatments are on offer. To complete the relaxation experience there’s heated pools, swim jets, a steam room, sauna, plus a fully-equipped fitness studio.

The main restaurant offers a Mediterranean buffet, complemented by stunning views over the beautiful Aegean Sea. While a tempting all-day menu of classic international dishes can be found at The Beach Club. You may opt to reserve a table at one of the four a la carte restaurants for dinner. Choose between French cuisine at Provence, pan-Asian at Anaya, Greek at Ouzo and Italian at Fresco. After you’ve eaten, take your seat for the family-friendly shows and live music.

The rooms at Ikos Oceania are open and bright with floor-to-ceiling windows, each boasting either a balcony or terrace. The Family Suites include separate sleeping areas for the parents and kids, while the larger bathroom features both a shower and bath.

If you wish to escape from the warm sunshine for a couple of hours head over to Petralona Cave (20km away). Here, the children won’t just learn what stalactites and stalagmites are - they’ll see remains of fossils from prehistoric times.

To learn about Greek history, make a day trip to Thessaloniki, where evidence of Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman eras can still be seen. Even if you’re not interested in religion, don’t miss out on seeing the Church of Agia Sophia (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), as the interior of this 7th century building resembles a mini art gallery. There are also a wide range of museums - too many to visit in one day, so choose the one(s) that interest you the most.

Fantastic food, wonderful staff

I can see why people return every year. The food is superb, even the buffet is great quality, lots of variety. The staff are all so helpful and my children loved the crèche (as well as the evening entertainment). Having read the tips on TripAdvisor, we booked as many restaurants as we could in advance and booked the rest on arrival. It’s a large site on a hill but they have buggy drivers who will take you where you need to go (and not too difficult to walk anyway). We had a 1 bed suite for a family of four and that was very nice. The only downside was access to the garden was via the living room where the kids slept, so we weren’t able to use the outside in the evenings. Some of the 1 bed suites have outdoor access from the bedroom too - worth requesting one of those if you have kids sleeping in the lounge. The (free) minibar was refreshed daily and generously! No noise from the adjoining rooms. The free transfers are really handy. But if you need car seats, ensure you request a people carrier. (I spent a very uncomfortable journey back to the airport wedged between two car seats in the back.) All in all, a wonderful trip. My one suggestion would be an ice cream hut. You can get bowls of ice cream in the restaurants but it would be lovely to get one by the pool in the afternoon!

Ikos Oceana, now revamped, lots of money spent on it and it shows, new pools, new decor, new everything, food excellent. totally all inclusivebeach buddies a wonderful new idea for them. only downside is the evening entertainment still slightly sub cruise ship standard. Love the U tube channel on the TV can get all your favorite old programs, just a slight hitch in the streaming occasionally.

Perfect in every way

After reading a number of reviews I knew to expect something nice but to be honest this beat my expectations. The service is unreal and when they say all inclusive they mean all inclusive. We pre booked our restaurants before arriving which was great we booked a mini car to take out and my husband used a bike on most days. The food is amazing and so are the drinks, it’s lovely to be served food and drink whilst laying on the beach. I have nothing negative to say about our wonderful week away and am now sold on trying every Ikos hotel. Thank you to all the wonderful staff and perfect service.
