Balos Beach Lagoon in Crete
Transport yourself to a tropical paradise as you venture to Crete's Balos Beach. You'll be greeted with turquoise waters and white sands as you arrive by ferry from Kissamos, or on foot from the carpark above. When you reach the beach, prepare yourself for a day of unrivalled relaxation. Read a book, lie in the soft sand or paddle in the beautifully warm, shallow waters.
Balos Beach is a genuine piece of paradise; even Prince Charles and Princess Diana are rumoured to have visited from their private yacht while on their honeymoon. This fantastic setting has picture-perfect views, so don't forget your camera.
When lunchtime arrives, you'll be grateful for a packed lunch. There's only one taverna on the beach, so take plenty of food and water with you.
If you opt to travel by hire car, be warned that the roads leading to Balos are very high and narrow. As you drive past mountain goats, you'll eventually reach a car park where you can stop and put on your walking shoes ready for the 30 minute hike to the beach below.
To round off your perfect day, stay on the white sands to watch the sun set over the ocean; a breath-taking end to a spectacular day.
