Pilot Beach Resort is on the shores of Peristeras Beach in Georgioupolis, Crete. With a background of typical Cretan olive and cypress trees, the gardens and terraces lead down to the hotel's private stretch of beach. The hotel also has four lagoon-style outdoor pools, as well as a separate pool for children. There's a sixth swimming pool in the spa suite and an outdoor whirlpool on the terrace. The hotel's spa also has a Turkish bath and a sauna, and you can book a massage. You can join in with aerobics and aqua aerobics classes, or a game of beach volleyball, all organised by the hotel staff. The hotel has tennis courts and a gym, and the team can arrange water activities for you, such as snorkelling and water skiing. The hotel has five restaurants serving a range of different cuisines. There are three bars; a sports bar, a lobby bar, and a cocktail bar that overlooks the hotel's terraces and the Aegean Sea. If you need to pick up any holiday essentials or to shop for a beach or lakeside picnic, there's a mini market at Pilot Beach Resort. Georgioupolis is within walking distance, and the village square is lined with tavernas and cafÈs. Georgioupolis Beach is a 7km stretch of sandy shore with Blue Flag status. The shuttle bus service goes from the hotel to Georgioupolis via Lake Kournas, and the hotel also runs a regular road train service. If you want to explore more of the island, you can hire a car through the hotel.
Georgioupolis is 1.6km from Pilot Beach. There's a small fishing harbour at the mouth of the River Almyros, leading out into the bay of Georgioupolis. There's also a choice of places to eat, drink and shop along the road to the beach, or you can take a boat trip from the harbour. Crete's only freshwater lake, Lake Kournas is 4.2km away from the hotel. There are little beaches around its shores, where you can swim or hire a pedalo. There are also tavernas by the lake. The hotel is between the city of Chania, 40km away, and Rethymnon Town, 24km away. Chania has a Venetian harbour and a long waterfront lined with restaurants, behind which is a maze of narrow old streets and a mix of Greek, Italian and Turkish architecture. Medieval Rethymnon also has an historic harbour, and a choice of places to eat, drink and shop. You can catch a boat from there for a day trip to the island of Santorini.
Pilot Beach has four buffet restaurants, all with outside seating. Between them they provide breakfast, late breakfast, lunch and dinner, offering Greek, Italian and international cuisine. The a la carte restaurant is open for dinner, serving seafood and sushi. There are two bars, a beach bar and a pool bar which in the evenings becomes a lovely lounge.
There's a kids' club (ages 4-12), and a kids' swimming pool with a pirate ship and an octopus slide. The hotel has darts, table tennis and pool.
Rooms have a mini fridge, a safe and individually controlled air conditioning or central heating. There's also high-speed Wi-Fi and a TV.

Great location !
We had a great time at the Pilot Beach Resort. Our room was on the upper floor of the beachfront bungalow and it could not have been better. The room was modern with all amenities for a relaxing stay. The unobstructed view of the beach and mountains was the best. Every night we slept with open windows listening to the waves. Our bungalow had the best location of all the resort: right on the beach, close to the beach restaurant and pool and far enough from the main road. The food was great. Good quality and many healthy choices, great salads, fish (even for breakfast). We booked half board and it was perfect. There are three different restaurants to dine in. We did not have the feeling that the resort was understaffed. All staff members were friendly. There is nothing to complain about. The resort is in walking distance to Georgioupolis. There is a beautiful lake nearby and it is worth renting a car to discover the western part of the island.
Wonderful holiday
As always, we have spent the most amazing holiday. Staff are extremely friendly and pay attention to any details. Tue quality of the food is also very good. The massages at the spa were outstanding and the kids loved there massage! See you next year!
Friendly, helpful staff
The hotel itself is lovely and well spaced out so that it never felt over-crowded. We had a ground floor room that looked out onto one of the smaller swimming pools, which was well located close to all the amenities. Even though the resort looks very big, it only took around 5 minutes to walk to the beach from where we were staying at the back of the resort, which was a pleasant surprise. The room itself was very clean and big enough for a family of 4. The mini fridge was nice to have as we were able to buy our own drinks from the mini-market in the hotel and keep them cool. We tried all the restaurants and they were all very good. There was a wide variety of food and it was really great to have a lot of greek food on the menu as well. We didn't get to enjoy the beach and outdoor pools as much as we would have liked because the weather was bad but the one day we did have out there was lovely and we took full advantage of water sports on the beach. Given the weather we had, we did make use of the indoor pool in the spa, which was a real blessing. The hotel is very family friendly. Although we didn't make use of the kids club, the children felt welcome everywhere, including in the indoor pool in the spa, which is not the case in many hotels. The children eat free policy is a really nice touch. We were half board and the option for the children to have a snack during the afternoon when the adults were not hungry, was really great. The biggest plus for this hotel is undoubtably the staff. I can't even name names because every single member of staff that we interacted with was so friendly and helpful and always greeted you with a smile. They have a WhatsApp channel for reception enquiries and this was a fantastic resource - no standing in a queue at reception. They always responded very quickly to queries submitted this way and we felt that they went above and beyond to help. I enquired about somewhere to buy a birthday cake for my husband and they offered to make one for him. We also asked about getting extra duvets, as the children found their beds a little hard, and straight away they came and put mattress toppers on their beds. The responsiveness from all staff was excellent and always so friendly! Even on the day when a big storm hit, causing flooding around and about, and when the hotel must have been under a lot of pressure trying to deal with flooding and accommodate everyone for breakfast at the same time, while not having use of any outdoor areas, the staff dealt with it all fantastically well and still maintained their constant friendly and helpful approach. All in all, we had a great holiday at this hotel, despite the bad weather, and would love to return one day.
