October stay for husband’s Birthday!
This was probably the worst 4* star All incl we have visited. Food was boring, repetitive and variable - OK meat one night but inedible the next?? (I have to eat low carb due to a medical condition, so tend to go for protein) A bit more reliability on quality would have been good - sawing at tough meat , which had been lovely yesterday? Hmmm. The view was fantastic however from our Golden Suite room. The star of the show was Kostas at the bars - brilliant guy! Lots of drinks were not available, including dark rum or rose wine. Not looking for branded labels, just standard. The teabag or coffee option is mean by any standards. If you want a cuppa at 03:00, why should you have thought in advance to buy your own milk and teabags? Terrible policy by the hotel which would not cost very much. The expensive safe cost was not well received either, but we paid up. We were unlucky to get terrible weather during part of our stay (October) and nothing to do except eat, drink or read. Fortunately the hotel did not stick to its own no drinks in rooms policy! The Minoan bus company changed its timetable twice during our 10 day stay, so check on times back, on arrival in Agios Nikolaus. We were faced with a 90 mins wait because of this and caught a taxi back - although there is a brilliant patisserie very close to the bus station! They also have a no standing policy. Several passengers were left behind because some young Russian guests did not understand the idea of queueing. The town is lovely however and we ate out there several times. Never go for the coach transfer from Heraklion Airport _ it can take up to 3 or 4 hours - you will be the last drop off with a walk up a steep slope with your luggage after a long journey. Overall we enjoyed our stay and but probably would not return, despite the views and lovely Kostas!
Ok
Ok hotel no spa or gym as all equipment broke. Food ok waiters lovely, reception miserable. Views lovely, rooms ok. Istron bit run down, beaches filthy so sad to see. Had a car to explore thank god. Wouldnt return.
Beautiful views
Stunning location with breathtaking views over the sea. 10 mins taxi/bus ride to aghios nikolaos which is a lovely place to visit. Hotel was lovely and room was cleaned daily. Food was nice but not a huge variety to choose from. Pool area was very small but amazing beach not far from hotel although its a very steep climb if you go downstairs from hotel. I recommend you walk into the left into the village from hotel and there's a sign for voulissma beach. It's much easier. A bit quiet in the evenings at the hotel which I didn't mind but not ideal if you are a party animal! If getting transfer from airport via shuttle bus please consider paying extra for taxi. It took 3 and a half hours to get to hotel in the pitch dark so it was not pleasant at all as there wasn't any scenery. Its worth paying the taxi fare...Trust me. I would definitely go back as the hotel/views and surrounding area was stunning!
