Louis Ionian Sun

Located on the eastern coast of Corfu, Louis Ionian Sun is a beachfront, family-friendly 4 star hotel. The resort is surrounded by green, lush vegetation in a quiet, remote part of the island. It’s a world away from the hustle and bustle of Corfu Town, 16km north of the resort and just a 25 minute drive from the airport. There are also a couple of family run tavernas within walking distance.

Children can join the mini club, have fun in the playground or splash around in the pools, complete with waterslides. At meal times there’s kid-friendly buffets, while you can leave the littlest guests with a babysitter (for an additional charge) and relax. If you like sports you’ll be spoiled for choice with swimming, tennis, basketball, volleyball, archery, ping pong, aerobics and billiards all on offer.

The restaurant boasts an indoor area and a veranda with a spectacular view of the Ionian Sea and mainland Greece. There are five themed nights per week; Greek, Italian, Mediterranean, Cretean and Mexican. For sleepyheads a late light breakfast is served by the beach. During the day two poolside and one beach bar offer a refreshing range of beverages. In the evening enjoy a cocktail at the rooftop bar, where you can also watch the entertainment provided by the in-house animation team. Meals, drinks and snacks are included for all-inclusive customers until midnight but the main bar remains open until 1am.

Double rooms feature a balcony or terrace, a queen sized bed, satellite TV and tea & coffee making facilities. Between July and September individually controlled air-conditioning is available, while you can also request a safe for a surcharge. The family option can sleep up to four guests.

The hotel is located in a rural location in Aghios Ioannis, ideal for relaxing. But you don’t have to look far for places to visit. The Azoria Olive Tree is believed to be 3200 years old with a base of 22m and a height of almost 7m. Children will love to run around the 8th century castle at Gardiki, where you will also find caves to explore. Achilleion Palace is one of the most impressive sites on the island. Here, you can view the 19th century neoclassical mansion and the gardens with the sea as the backdrop.

Sleep Quality

Just ok

We found this hotel to be very clean with helpful staff. Room was very dated, tired and a bit depressing - but didn't spend much time in it so not a problem. Plenty of communal seating areas which was good. Restaurant has an outside terrace which is nice, apart from the very busy road between it and the sea view. Large terrace with loads of seating by the beach bar. At lunchtime you can eat here, although choice is limited every day to the same wraps (with pork), lamb or pork kebabs salad and chips. Good choice of flavoured ice creams here which you help yourself to. Wine is from a pump, so the red is not only rough but served chilled !!!! White is just about drinkable but not great. Coffee is from a machine and tastes disgusting, but the tea is fine (only need hot water from machine as teabags/milk supplied). There is a good choice of hot meat/fish dishes at dinner - but you're lucky if you get one vegetable to go with it. Sometimes there might be cauliflower. Strangely at breakfast I saw courgettes which would have been nice at dinner. There's always the salad bar, but that doesn't really go with chicken casserole. It must be very difficult if you're a vegetarian here. Also found a very limited amount of fresh fruit which was disappointing. Beach is great, always managed to find sunbeds and parasol. Lovely for swimming, very clear water. Stoney which may bother some peoole. Didn't use pools so can't comment on them. Overall it's an ok hotel but wouldn't return. I rate it a three star maximum.

Definitely not 4 star

This hotel has everything well almost everything no hot water in our room - they have been trying to fix it for almost 2 days and still we have a cold shower!! The rooms are very dated and tired - laminate flooring broken, fridge stained furniture chipped etc. The general areas are ok but tired and dated the food is not hot nor a lot of selection. We have stayed at a few 4star and 5star hotel over the years and this one definitely is not, I would say a 2star at best a 3star. The staff generally are friendly though. Good luck if you book

Great first visit

First visit to this hotel & after a wonderful stay I wanted to give a review of all the pros & cons that we found during our stay. Location: The tranfer only took 20min from the airport & there are bus stops outside of the hotel which easily takes you to corfu town and various other places. I would say that the hotel is not walking distance to anything else. For us, we had everything we needed at the hotel so this wasnt an issue. The hotel has lifts but there are steps to the beach so if you have mobility issues you might struggle. Rooms: We had a sea view & the view was fantastic. We had the sun in the mornings, if you want the sun in the afternoon I would book a garden view. The rooms themselves were clean, housekeeping came everyday & we received a bottle of water everyday. It was 2 single beds pushed together but this didnt bother us. We stayed on level4 which meant we werent close to the entertainment which was nice. Food: There is a main restaurant for breakfast, lunch & dinner with a different theme every dinner. At the beach bar there is also a mini breakfast, lunch and afternoon snack. We found this was a great aspect to the hotel as it meant there was always food available, especially if you sleep in or just want a light lunch. For our personal tastes the food was great. Some additional points of note: You will find 2-3 wasps by the drinks machine. They were more interested in the beer & so fairly relaxed wasps in my opinion. There was a staff strike on 1 day but this only lasted till 11am and only occurred on 1 occasion.
