wonderful place with a terrible service
A wonderful place with a terrible service, the staff doesnt know the services of the facilities, they do not solve the concerns of the guests. The buffet doesnt have a good variety of food, the restaurants and bars are only open until midnight, they made us wait a long time for the delivery of the rooms and they delivered them wrong, without the contracted beds, they didnt clean the rooms every day
Melia Caribe Review
We booked this resort for 2 reasons: we had previously twice stayed at another Melia resort (Melia Braco Village in Jamaica), and stayed in The Level , which we found to be one of the best resort vacation experiences ever. While there, we met a couple who vacation exclusively at Melia resorts and when we mentioned how impressed we were, they said Braco Village doesn’t even compare to the Melia resorts in Dominican Republic. The Braco Village resort sadly closed during the Covid pandemic and has not reopened so we decided to try the Melia resorts in DR. The second reason is that we were travelling with our grandson so chose Caribe vs Punta Cana ( which is the adult only part of the resort). We stayed in a Level Grande Suite since it has a private bedroom. The room itself was fine, certainly large enough. It has full size appliances (fridge, oven, dishwasher etc) and they are not new and less likely to see use with the exception of the fridge which was stocked well with water, beer, juice, soft drinks, etc. plenty of hot water for shower and tub. Nice sized balcony. Had an issue with the room safe and also the toilet (both stopped working) - resolved promptly. Many have complained of the long walk to the beach from the lobby area. We were in building 46, so the furthest away from the beach. There are trains that carry guests, however, we like walking so did you hat many times. I timed the walk - averaged just over 7 minutes ( don’t believe the 20-30 minute estimates). Some other good points before I address the ‘opportunities for improvement’ include: Plenty of beach towels available. Getting beach chairs / shade never an issue. All restaurants we tried had very good food and excellent service - especially the Riviera restaurant which quickly became our favourite. Improvement is required: Check in - since we were Level guests we knew there had to be a separate lounge to check in. We always stay in the reserved or preferred areas of resorts, and when checking in there is always someone waiting to greet you and take you to the check in location. That did not happen here. The regular check in area was full of guests so we asked a passing employee where the Level reception is. They responded “over there”. That can mean a lot of things or it can mean nothing. We eventually found our own way only to arrive in a packed reception area and told to take a seat when there were not enough chairs for our group. Not a good first impression. Check out was also interesting. We had to catch our return transport to the airport at 07:30, and were told to check out at 07:00. We arranged luggage pick up, which never showed up. We were close to the reception so we transported ourselves to find a line up of guests waiting for the Level reception to open ( which apparently is supposed to be 07:00). An employee unlocked the doors at 07:15, and this lone employee then had difficulty starting his computer which meant additional waiting and we had to ensure our waiting transfer did not depart without us. Not the best way to end a vacation. Another peeve was the non- stop pestering to sell excursions- by employees, beach vendors who walk right up to the grassed areas ( saw money exchange hands with employees twice), and worst of all those guys in the yellow shirts ( contracted to sell excursions by the hotel, they say). If I want to swim with dolphins ( which I would never consider in the 21st century) I’ll seek someone out. You can say no thank you all you want but there is a steady stream of “salespeople “. I won’t come back to this resort for this reason alone. There’s the good and the areas that need hotel attention so hopefully this will help guide your vacation decision.
Absolute perfection. Ignore the bad reviews!
Visited here for 2 weeks with my family (4 adults, 1 18 month old and 1 3 year old) and like many others, after reading a few reviews, was super anxious about what to expect. Long review incoming… The hotel: stunning. One of the largest and best resorts we have ever stayed in. We booked 2 x junior suites on the Level which offers exclusive access to other parts of the hotel and it was totally worth it. The grounds are huge and flawlessly kept. Land trains and golf buggies are constantly whipping around to take you to places that may be a little too far to walk in the heat or with kids/older people. The rooms were great. Spacious and cleaned every single day. Our mini bar was also stocked daily and on evenings where the kids were too tired to dinner, room service was good too. There is an abundance of places to eat which was very important to us as we have fussy children. I’m a professional chef and restaurant owner and I found the standard and consistency of the food to be excellent. There was enormous variety each day and the presentation was second to none (even in the buffets). We sampled Capri, Alma, Tartufo, Hacienda, Cape NAO (for the level guests) and the paid experience at Hokkaido during our stay and all of them were very good indeed. The staff: welcoming, so so friendly and great with kids! Everyone was so helpful and there is a real presence of staff and security in every area of the resort. Big big shout out to the boys at the Shaker Bar (best drinks at the hotel), the waiters at Cape Nao and an extra special thank you to Reynardo, our concierge who MADE our holiday. He booked all of our dinner reservations even when things got tricky with kids bedtimes etc. He helped us book a boat trip excursion and he even went and bought us nappies for the kids when we ran out! Such a wonderful man and I hope Melia Caribe realise how lucky they are to have such a wonderful employee. There are so many things to do at the hotel for every age group. We visited the water park twice and the kids attended the kids club (with us) daily. The entertainment variety and daily activities were fantastic. We tried aqua fit on the beach and yoga, which we loved! We cannot wait to come back to this resort. Our new favourite place. Thank you Melia Caribe for the most wonderful first family holiday (out of lockdown)! X **phots are all my own and they don’t even do the place justice!
