Affordable Cyprus
I stayed here for a week in October. It was not our first choice of accommodation, and it would have been easy to be put off by some of the reviews. However, prices were rocketing, presumably as a result of the demise of Thomas Cook, and the price of this holiday was extremely reasonable. The two-room apartment was spacious and clean, with a balcony and pool view. We had the added bonus of a sea view as well. It was exceptionally quiet, even though we slept with our window open. The apartment had air conditioning in both rooms (no extra charge with TUI) but, being autumn, we did not often need it. There was a safe for valuables. Service was good, and the staff were friendly and helpful. There were plenty of sunbeds around the pool and ample room for swimming. There is also an indoor pool with good shower and changing facilities which can be used pre-flight home (fresh towels provided). We were self-catering, but did eat at the hotel restaurant on two occasions. It was a buffet-style meal with plenty of choice, in an 'all you can eat' style. There was a different menu on each occasion, and we found it very tasty. Entertainment included aquarobics and an evening dance show. The man in charge of entertainments, whose name I think was Sandor, was especially friendly and helpful. He introduced us to the hotel's feral cats, and explained how they were cared for, including trips to the vet for neutering! It was a 15/20 minute walk to the main beach, where there is a landing stage for the boat trips. Otherwise, it was not necessary to walk far in the evening to find a good bar or restaurant. I can recommend 'Super S' - lovely local food, great service - and Woody's. Both less than five minutes from the hotel. Also recommended is a walk up to St Elias Church at the top of the hill above the main road. It looks really high, but is not a difficult climb. To sum up - I would certainly go back to the Artemis. It may not be the height of luxury, but is clean and comfortable and is a good base from which to enjoy Protaras, with its lovely beach and warm sea.
