All I can truly say is FANTASTIC did not want to go back home. Very laid back and relaxing. Will be looking to go back in 2023. Given the time of year it was hot but comfortable. Plenty to do and see. Amazing scenary, Lovely hospitable staff
Basilica Resort Hotel, Paphos
There are lots of positives at this hotel complex, including the rooms being clean, lots of variety of food available and very friendly staff. However, unfortunately there were a few things that we were unhappy with during our stay. When we arrived we realised that the pool was just down an alleyway at the side of the restaurant, directly opposite a very large supermarket and busy road so it didn’t feel very safe or private- not ideal to travel with children. When we went to our room, it was lovely and clean. However we noticed that our door could be opened from the outside even when locked- when we went to the reception and informed them. They told us there wasn’t anywhere else for us to go and someone would fix it the next day- we stated that we had a group plan this evening and wouldn’t be in the hotel, we were assured that security would watch our room and CCTV covers our room. When we arrived back late that evening security was nowhere to be seen in the hotel and we later found out that the CCTV cannot be accessed. We also found out later during our holiday that the locks of all rooms had to be changed the day we arrived as there had been a lot of thefts from rooms- this was all very concerning for us. We were woken very early the next morning by a man to fix the door. In the room there were fantastic facilities, the bathroom was clean, bedding was white and we even had little slippers. However other people said they had fresh fruit in the room and robes which we didn’t get. The kettle in the room couldn’t be used as it has a 2 pronged European plug fitting and the plug sockets in the room were the 3 pronged UK sockets. The food available varied everyday and there was lots of choice available. We were all inclusive so it was great value for money, however was a shame the bar shut at 11. We noticed boards in reception to say what entertainment was available at the hotel- everyday there is supposed to be bowls, volley ball in pool, exercise in pool, darts and an evening entertainment. A few days out of our 7 days, the man who runs the entertainment did bowls and darts only- however the majority of days nothing was on. The evening entertainment was good- when it went ahead as planned, 2 nights it was cancelled. The pool was freezing cold and wasn’t heated as we expected. Overall this hotel is perfectly located near the harbour, near a bus station and near amenities in town. The staff are friendly and approachable, however the services and facilities do let it down.
Staff are great!
Arrived around midnight, check in very easy and quick and we were taken over the road to our apartment. Very clean, bright and a welcome bowl of fruit and wine. View was horrid, overlooking the back of the supermarket delivery bay and local residents balconies, so we didn't feel very relaxed having our morning coffee. We were self catering, so can't comment on the food, other than to say that we considered eating there, but found the evening meal, prepped and out on the side at least half hour before it was open, which put us off. The pool area was clean and looked OK, but it was too cold to swim in, so we only went once. Rooms were cleaned regularly, could do with a shelf in the shower, mattress cover and a cooker, but was adequate for 2 people. Entertainment was not amazing but couldn't fault the guy running it, he tried hard but not pushy. Heard of a problem with some guests being burgled, which meant we paid extra for a late checkout room as 8 hours leaving our bags unattended in an unlocked reception didn't seem wise, not hotel fault, but bear in mind if you visit, especially as room not always available. Bar area was lovely, drinks reasonably priced although 11 0 clock closing seemed a little early. Location to harbour and town was excellent, 2 mins to everything you needed. WE LOVED EVERY MEMBER OF STAFF WE MET, cannot say a bad word about any of them, a real joy to see happy faces in work .Overall we had a good holiday.
