Follow up review
Follow up Tripadvisor review notes. Please take the time to read as it will help you make an informed decision. After I posted the initial Tripadvisor review I was pleasantly surprised to be contacted by Ioannis Demenegas the Food and Beverage Manager at the hotel. We had a sit down together and I explained about the concerns about the cold food and access to a la carte restaurants at a reasonable cost. He was very attentive and seemed to have a genuine interest in what was said. He also clarified a few points of note. The Golden Monkey Restaurant is actually part of the Tower Apartments and is totally independent of the hotel hence there is no discount for residents staying at the hotel. TUI mentioned in the initial description that there was an Italian Restaurant there isn’t one although one is planned. Explained the issues to him about the confusion with what you can and can’t have at the Seashells Healthy Living Bar and Grab and Go. As an aside TUI don’t indicate on their website that a local charge may be payable at the Seashells Healthy Living Bar when it actually it is for some things. He explained that as the hotel caters for residents for bed and breakfast, half board and all inclusive it is not possible to separate all items out. He mentioned that there should be an AI (all inclusive) notation by the items that are included to allow guests to make an informed decision at these locations. There are some items now that are marked up. As regards the cold food he said that this would be looked at and since the initial conversation there has been some improvement although there have still been some instances where the food has been cold. Plates have been warmer and this has helped in keeping the food warmer. Guests do have to play a part and close the lids when they have selected their food. The issues with the colder food only appeared to be in either The Octagon or Palladium Restaurants. Ate in the Splash Bar which is by the smaller pool. The food was piping hot and cooked to order, great portions and delicious. In closing he was very apologetic for the issues that had been experienced and arranged for a bottle of champagne and a plate of fruit as an apology along with a couple of other things. I am not the sort of person that sets out to get something for nothing however the gesture was gratefully welcomed. He did also mention that he would welcome feedback from any other residents that are experiencing issues so that the hotel can deal with these. One other point that I thought I would mention was at the Palladium Restaurant. The restaurant opens between 1900hrs and 2200hrs. There is a daily chefs special which is carved by the chef. On the Saturday this ran out after a hour and was not replaced. I note that there has been a previous review mentioning this. Could have just been one of those things but needed highlighting. The other point that I have become aware of and have not discussed is the late check out room. Late check out rooms are 10 euros an hour which is comparable with what I have previously paid at other hotels however the all inclusive finishes at 1500hrs. This means that if you then want a buffet you are paying a minimum of 36 euros per person. The reality is that it would be far cheaper to book the room and get food from somewhere close. As we had arrived at 0200hrs in the morning we highlighted the fact that we did not have any food on the first day and was given a voucher to cover drinks and food when the all inclusive period ended. Did have the opportunity to try the Alakati Restaurant. This is dining outside near the children’s pool and is definitely a five star experience. You have to book however it is well worth the experience as has some of the most beautifully presented food I have seen. In closing would I go back to the St Raphael? Unfortunately my answer would be no. Improvements in the food need to be continued and sustained and that is the main difference with what is and isn’t a five star hotel. Couldn’t fault the staff or the grounds. Taking into consideration my observations I now have to give a final rating. There certainly has been improvements with the food however this does not merit a five star rating. I have now decided to give a Tripadvisor rating of 3 taking into consideration the hotel staff grounds and food.
We will be back for sure
My boyfriend Peter and i came from the states through Hungary and read a lot of good things online about your hotel. We were glad it turned out to be all true. The staff where very helpful and the massages sooo relaxing. The buffets were so sumptious and our suite to die for. The champagne at the brejadast at oktogon a very nice touch.
