Vidova Gora on Brac Island
For breathtaking views on your holiday to Brac Island, a visit to tallest peak Vidova Gora is an absolute must. At almost 800 metres above sea level, Vidova Gora is not only the highest peak on Brac Island, it's also the highest on any island in the Adriatic.
Found close to Brac's beautiful south coast, Vidova Gora is just a short distance from the town of Bol and Zlatni Rat, although you'll have to go the long way round if you're getting there by car. It's possible to drive up the mountain courtesy of a stony track, but if you're feeling adventurous then give the hike a go. It's a five mile trek from Bol, which should take around two miles from the beach to the summit. There's not much shade on the climb, so as well as wearing suitable footwear, make sure you take plenty of water, sun cream and a hat if it's really hot.
However you get there, from the top you can enjoy stunning views back down over the spectacular Zlatni Rat beach, and out across the Adriatic towards the other Dalmatian islands. There's a restaurant at the summit where you can sip on a refreshing drink or feast on a local speciality, spit-roasted lamb.
Don't forget to take your camera as you'll want to capture the incredible panoramas. You'll be able to spot vineyards rolling down towards the sea, then after you've had your fill of the views, head back down to Bol and visit the Stina Winery to sample what the vines produce. Or keep your sights on the picture-perfect Zlatni Rat and make your way down to the beach for a memorable sunset.
