Alta is a family-friendly hotel in the resort of Puerto de la Cruz on the northern coast of Tenerife. It's a short stroll from the black-sand El Lago Marti·nez Beach. It's also steps away from a selection of shops, bars and restaurants, and you'll find a wider choice at bustling Plaza del Charco, a short walk away. This leafy square is also home to dining spots where you can taste traditional Spanish food such as tapas or paella. Rooms at the hotel each have a balcony. There's also an outdoor pool and sun terrace where you can swim and relax, as well as a bar where you can get soft or alcoholic drinks to enjoy in the sun. The bar doubles up as a breakfast room in the morning, so you can fuel yourself ahead of a day of relaxing or sightseeing. If you like to keep active on holiday, you can try out one of the popular local hiking trails in the Orotava Valley, which is within driving distance of the hotel. Here, you can experience views over the natural landscape. Puerto de la Cruz also offers a range of entertainment such as live music and shows to enjoy in the evening.
El Lago Marti·nez, a series of open-air salt water pools and sculptures, is a 400m walk from the hotel. These were created by a Canary island artist, CÈsar Manrique, and have views over the sea. Plaza del Charco in Puerto de la Cruz is 1km from the hotel. You'll find shops to pick up gifts and souvenirs, as well as bars where you can get a glass of sangria before sunset. In Puerto de la Cruz, you can explore the 18th century Botanical Garden. There are a couple of museums focusing on contemporary art and archaeology if you want to discover the cultural history of the area.
You can have a buffet breakfast each morning. Each apartment has cooking facilities and equipment, so you can rustle up your favorite dishes in the comfort of your own space. You'll have hot plates, a fridge and an oven in your kitchenette. There's a dining area inside each room where you can enjoy your meals.
If you fancy visiting another beach a short drive from the hotel, Playa JardÌn is popular as it has a garden as well as black sand.
All rooms have a TV with satellite channels. There's a safe to keep valuable belongings during your stay. Baby cots are also available.

Very good apartment, but with a hot water problem
We spent two weeks here in February, and found the apartment to be very comfortable and with an excellent location. The building is slightly set back from a very attractive road, but we were pleased to find that it was very quiet at night, with negligible road and street noise, even with the bedroom window open all night. The location is perfect – a quiet area, near the sea, just out of the town -centre, but within easy walking distance of good restaurants, shops, and bars, and with no steps or steep hills to climb. The rooms are large, and well-furnished. We found the chairs, settee and the twin beds to be in good condition and of a much better standard than we expected for the price. The kitchen area was basic but was sufficient for our needs, and the staff were extremely helpful, and provided us with a few items that were missing such as a kettle, some knives, and 2 beer mugs. We did have one significant problem, however: the hot water was simply not enough to have even one decent shower – especially if you want to wash your hair as well. We were able to manage the situation by running the shower at the lowest pressure possible, and not as hot as I would have liked. This strategy allowed me to have a warmish shower lasting 10 minutes without the water running cold at the end. My husband then had to wait for about 20 minutes until the water heated up again. The problem was due to the apartment’s very small hot water tank that held only 30 litres of water. It is such a pity that this otherwise excellent accommodation has this draw-back. We were told that all the apartments had a similar 30-litre water tank. I would definitely consider coming to the Apartamentos Alta again because of all of the other advantages offered, but the poor hot water provision is very much a disincentive, especially for a long-stay holiday. We intend to come to Puerto de la Cruz every year for at least 6 weeks, and I know that many visitors at this time of year have similar plans. I do hope that an upgrade to the hot water will be considered in the near future.
‘Old’ large apartments in the heart of Puerto
We stayed 17 nights and enjoyed every minute.. I expected small very old studios but we got bedroom and living room..One balcony outside the bedroom and a corner balcony outside the kitchen living room. Apartment number 607. Cleaning of apartment every day.. except Sundays. Cosy little cafe where you can enjoy breakfasts and lunch for a small amount. That is if you don’t feel like using the kitchen in the apartment.. Alta is situated 4 minutes walk from a small mall with a large supermarket.. 5 minutes from the beach and all the wonderful saltwater swimming pool.. We’ll be back
The family from Llandudno.
We stayed at Alta Apartments from 5 to 15 August. After a very late arrival and a blip with the electrics we settled down in very spacious clean apartments with daily room service. On the fourth floor we looked onto a derelict building where squatters lived with their dog. No problem really but a nicer view would have been good! Each morning we had breakfast with plenty of variety but little courtesy. Not even a Buenos Dias was ever heard!! The room maids were more pleasant though. No in house entertainment here but we found enough in the vast variety of cafe bars/restaurants along the pretty promenade which comes to life nightly with musicians opera singers and buskers. My two grandchildren managed to swim with their Mum in the safety of the tiny harbour watched closely by Life Guards. A lovely holiday overall but little to occupy the youngsters in Puerto de La Cruz.
